In addition to a 4.3-inch TFT touch-screen display, 2-GB SD card with preinstalled map data for North America, Reality View, dynamic route guidance with free real time traffic and Lane Info functions that make it easier to find your way and prepare for turns, the Becker Traffic Assist 7827 is extremely easy to operate. All menu items are just a few "clicks" away.
Elegant slim-line design with a special surface coating and a high-contrast, low-reflection screen with automatic Day/Night display and tunnel simulation make this mobile navigation unit a real eye-catcher.
Safety, convenience and entertainment are provided by the Speed Limit function, POIs along the route, Picture Viewer and integrated MP3/Video player.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The map data for North America, Canada, Alaska and Puerto Rico contains special destinations including airports, hospitals, service stations, hotels, restaurants and stadiums. Miniature icons show points of interest along the selected route.
REALITY VIEW
Directional signs are presented true to life on the high-resolution display. This provides a clear overview and alerts the driver ahead of time to upcoming lane changes and motorway junctions.

The display brightness can be easily adjusted from day to night mode via the "Settings" menu. This feature ensures optimal readability in changing light conditions, for example, when driving through a long tunnel.

I was hemming and hawing between the Becker and Nuvi. The free traffic updates are great. I've had this for more than 6 months now and the traffic feature has gotten me out of a bind many times. However what tipped the tables in favor of the Becker was that I was told a map and POI update would be available in the Fall of 2008. Here we are in March and still no update. The standard configuration has very few POI's.
The maps are great and I find it truly finds the optimal route.
My wife has a Nuvi and while this is not cumbersome, the Nuvi is more use-friendly. The graphics on the Becker, however, are cleaner, and the voice is louder and crisper on the Becker.
I started out satisfied, but the lack of the POI and map update has really disappointed me. Was this review helpful?

Becker GPS is made by Harman Kardon and is a huge GPS brand in Europe. They're breaking into the US with a couple really nice units. This is definitely a high-end unit comparable to the Garmins and TomToms of the world. The real-time traffic is awesome, especially in Los Angeles. Made me realize how useless a GPS was in this city without traffic as a routing criteria. Imagine being stuck on the freeway and not knowing how far you need to drive on local streets before getting back on the freeway? Plus, the traffic info's free! The mood lighting is cool, too. I needed to buy a new GPS unit for my wife and decided to try the Becker. I have had several GPS units and this one is by far my favorite. The screen is bright, easy to read, and the real time traffic updates are great. The unit was easy to install and I think the pre-loaded maps are much better than others I have used in the past.
