Notes & Personnel Info
Director: Francesca Chalukoff.
The title of Time Life's 2005 collection Hard to Find Soul isn't quite accurate. Most of the 14 songs on this compilation are rather easy to find, particularly Otis Redding's "Respect," Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)," Sam & Dave's "I Thank You," Eddie Floyd's "Knock on Wood," Clarence Carter's "Slip Away," Joe Tex's "Hold What You've Got," the Persuaders' "Thin Line Between Love and Hate" and the Spinners' "Mighty Love, Pt. 1." That's over half the collection, and some of the remaining songs are rather common, too (in fact, the only tunes that don't show up that often on comps are Barbara Lewis' "Make Me Your Baby" and Blue Magic's "Sideshow"). But even if these songs aren't rare, they're still good songs, and put together, they make for a good, entertaining listen, particularly if the CD can be found for a bargain price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Producer: Charles McCardell (Compilation)
