Mix this collection with some fava beans and a nice Chianti and you're ready for an evening of psychological terror and harrowing horror. The Hannibal Lecter Collection contains the cannibal classics MANHUNTER, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, and HANNIBAL.

MANHUNTER: Witness the birth of evil. This "eerie, very intense" (New York) thriller from writer-director Michael Mann (Heat, The Insider) first introduced the world to the cunning, unforgettable serial killer named Hannibal Lecter. Joan Allen and Stephen Lang co-star in this "dark locomotive of a film" (Los Angeles Times) that promises to "keep viewers riveted" (Time)! Former FBI profiler Will Graham (William Peterson, CSI) reluctantly returns to his old job to track a horrific serial killer known as the "Tooth Fairy." But in order to get into the mind of this maniac, Graham must face another: Hannibal, the imprisoned psychiatrist whose own insanity almost Graham his life...and whose insights into the Tooth Fairy could prove as dangerous as the killer himself.

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster deliver sensational Oscar-winning performances in this "shockingly powerful thriller" (New York). "Stunning" (Los Angeles Times) and "spellbinding" (The Hollywood Reporter), this terrifying masterpiece garnered five Academy Awards, including Best Director and the coveted Best Picture. A vicious psychopath is murdering women throughout the Midwest. Believing that it takes one to know one, the FBI sends agent Clarice Starling (Foster) to interview a prisoner who may provide clues to the killer's actions. The prisoner is Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins), a brilliant, demented cannibal who agrees to help Starling only if she'll feed his morbid curiosity with details of her own complicated life. But as their relationship develops, Starling is forced to confront not only her hidden demons...but also an evil so powerful that she may not have the courage--or strength--to stop it!

HANNIBAL: The silence has been broken... "Thrilling" (Time), "absorbing" (The Wall Street Journal) and "entertaining" (NewsDay), this follow-up to The Silence of the Lambs is an "audience success" (US Weekly)! Anthony Hopkins is "perverse perfection" (Rolling Stone) in his return to the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the sophisticated killer who comes out of hiding to draw FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) into a high-stakes battle that will test her strength, cunning...and loyalty. Drenched in terror, suspense and shocking visual effects, HANNIBAL is "as compelling a film as you will ever see" (Joel Siegel, Good Morning America)!

Professional Reviews
ReelViews 7 of 10
[Hannibal] Having seen Hannibal, I can understand why Jodie Foster wasn't interested. The Clarice Starling of The Silence of the Lambs was a psychologically complex individual who remained squarely at the center of the storyline. Her relationship with Hannibal Lecter was endlessly fascinating, a game of mental chess between two evenly matched players who were drawn together by a perverse attraction. That Clarice is missing in action in Hannibal. The character has been emasculated and reduced to little more than a plot device. This is Lecter's movie; Clarice's role is secondary, and there's little in the way of interesting character development...The movie is not a hack job - it contains moments of genuine suspense, always looks good, and has the virtue of Anthony Hopkins returning to the greatest role of his incredibly diverse career. - James Berardinelli

Reel.com 9 of 10
[Manhunter] When fans of The Silence of the Lambs are made aware that there is another movie featuring Hannibal Lecter also based on a book by Thomas Harris, they often head immediately to their nearest video store. After seeing Manhunter, these folks might be dissatisfied by the spare number of scenes the mad doctor appears in, but they are probably pleasantly surprised by how tightly crafted and elegant Michael Mann's film is...About one hour into Manhunter, the identity of the killer is revealed and another, equally compelling, story line involving his attraction to a blind woman (a terrific early performance from Joan Allen) is depicted. There are other significant plot threads in the film (one involving a tabloid reporter is particularly effective) and Mann juggles them all expertly. - Rod Armstrong

Chicago-Sun Times 9 of 10
[Silence] The popularity of Jonathan Demme's movie is likely to last as long as there is a market for being scared. Like "Nosferatu," "Psycho" and "Halloween," it illustrates that the best thrillers don't age. Fear is a universal emotion and a timeless one. But "Silence of the Lambs" is not merely a thrill show. It is also about two of the most memorable characters in movie history, Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter, and their strange, strained relationship...Hopkins' performance has much less screen time than Foster's, but made an indelible impression on audiences. His "entrance" is unforgettable...We are frightened both because of the film's clever manipulation of story and image, and for better reasons--we like Clarice, identify with her and fear for her. Just like Lecter. - Roger Ebert
