Passion. Betrayal. Revenge. A hostile takeover is underway.

Features: DVD, Aspect Ratio 1.85:1, Dolby Digital (5.1)

Hamlet is a contemporary adaptation of the classic play set in New York City, circa 2000--a world of laptops and limousines. The President of the Denmark Corporation is dead, and already his wife is remarried to the man suspected of the murder. Nobody is more troubled than her son Hamlet (Ethan Hawke). Now, after this hostile takeover, trust is impossible, passion is on the rise and revenge is in the air.

"...visually interesting..."  James Berardinelli's ReelViews
"A knockout...you will be dazzled!"  Rolling Stone
"...darkly disturbing..."  Desson Howe, Washington Post

Editor's Note

Ethan Hawke stars in this modern update of Shakespeare's classic play. He portrays a young filmmaker in New York City who struggles to gain power of his deceased father's company, even as the new boss (Kyle MacLachlan) manages to take total control of the proceedings. Michael Almereyda's (NADJA) film is another stylized adaptation of the Bard's words, featuring standout performances by the entire cast. For other modern Shakespeare adaptations, see Baz Luhrmann's ROMEO AND JULIET and Julie Taymor's TITUS.

5 of 5 Great adaptation Wednesday, October 11, 2006
KM from Kew Gardens, NY

As a high school teacher covering Hamlet, I was looking for ways to make the story come alive. Of all the movies, this is by far the most enjoyable and it really causes the viewer to think about the story in a different way because of the cinematic choices made.
