From acclaimed musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES) comes an entirely new take on the highly successful and terrifying Halloween legacy that began in 1978. While revealing a new chapter in the established Michael Myers saga, the film will surprise both classic and modern horror fans with a a departure from prior films in the Halloween franchise. Audiences should brace themselves for unprecedented fear as Zombie turns back time to uncover the making of a pathologically disturbed, even cursed child named Michael Myers.

Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
The soundtrack to Rob Zombie's remake of the original John Carpenter slasher classic is composed of creepy bits of dialogue from the film juxtaposed against both obscure and popular '70s rock tunes that evoke the era in which Carpenter's seedy original was made. Zombie is a schlockmeister of the highest order, yet within that realm he has impeccable taste. His decision to use tracks such as the Stooges' grimy "1969," Rush's "Tom Sawyer" (the ominous synths of which have an entirely new impact when heard in the presence of Michael Meyers), Kiss's "God of Thunder," and Nazareth's anthemic "Love Hurts" to evoke terror and dread works perfectly. Like Quentin Tarantino before him, Zombie has made the soundtracks to his films almost as much of an entertainment experience as the movies themselves.
The soundtrack for Rob Zombie's remake of the iconic horror classic Halloween salvages only original director/composer John Carpenter's instantly recognizable piano motif before dropping a stack of quarters into a ghoulish late-'70s jukebox that's as genuinely fun as it is macabre. Cryptic dialogue from the film (think Pulp Fiction) is peppered throughout, lending FM radio staples like "Love Hurts" (Nazareth), "Baby, I Love Your Way" (Peter Frampton), and "Let It Ride" (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) a bit of campy weight, while darker and more obvious cuts such as "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (Blue ?yster Cult), "Only Women Bleed" (Alice Cooper), and "Halloween II" (Misfits) help to keep things appropriately menacing. Composer Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead, 300) does a nice job of keeping Carpenter's original score prominent without sacrificing his own work, and singer/songwriter and ex-Spiritual Cowboy Nan Vernon's closing rendition of "Mr. Sandman" is deliciously ominous, but it's the inclusion of Rush's "Tom Sawyer" that's going to get people into seats, if only to see if Neil Peart's mid-song rototom solo appears in a sex sequence or a murder scene. ~ James Christopher Monger
