 Editor's Note
A trio of bong-loving buddies hatch a pot-laced plan to spring the fourth member of their smokers' circle out of the Big House, where he languishes after accidentally killing a diabetic police horse. The cinematic equivalent of aerosol cheese, featuring a bevy of buzz-friendly cameos (such as Bob Saget, as a rehabbing cokehead, and the Father of Them All, Tommy Chong).

| | Professional Reviews | New York Times "...Its cast is attractive...and the music is lively..." 01/17/1998 p.B16Home Theater Info 7 of 10 For good or bad, movies have created new genres to reflect changes in society. In 1978 Cheech and Chong took their drug-centric humor to the movies and the stoner genre was born. One of the later but still definitive entry into this type of film is Half Baked. While it will never find itself on any top ten lists there is a certain amusement to be had here. Now don't expect a lot in the way of a story line, after all the target audience is not known for a reliable degree of short term memory...Looking at the genre of this film you may not have imagined that the cast is composed of absolutely brilliant young comedians. Each of the four leads has been a stand up comedian and able to garner their own feature films. David Chappelle is the epitome of the off the wall stand up comedian. FilmCritic.com 8 of 10 Really, how can you hate a movie with a flying dog?...The answer you can't. You also can't hate a movie that's as funny and blissfully stupid as Half Baked, the 1998 pot comedy written by Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan (the two guys behind Chappelle's Show) and directed by Tamra Davis...Also in the movie's favor is its short length - 85 minutes - which is just enough time before the pot humor loses its buzz, and lots of effective cameos...Half Baked is bound to find a new audience with the massive popularity of Chappelle's Show, and that's good. Maybe Sir Smoke-a-Lot, the fidgety, pot-addled rapper played by Chappelle in the movie, can find a home on his show alongside Tyrone the Crackhead. - Pete Croatto
