 Editor's Note
A nihilistically philosophical hit man reluctantly accepts an assignment in Detroit, coinciding with his 10-year high school reunion in the ritzy suburb of Grosse Point, Michigan. While in town, he tries to patch things up with the girlfriend he abandoned on prom night, avoid being killed by an over-zealous competitor's henchmen, and survive his surreal homecoming. A bullet-ridden, darkly comedic tale of self-discovery from star-writer-producer Cusack. Recommended.

| | Professional Reviews | Entertainment Weekly Rating: B 10/08/1999 pp.74-5USA Today "...[This] is the kind of quirky, character-driven comedy they don't make much anymore..." -- 3 out of 4 stars 04/11/1997 p.4D Entertainment Weekly "...GROSSE POINTE BLANK achieves a loose, distinctive comedy rhythm..." 04/11/1997 p.60-3 New York Times "...[Cusack's] wary style is perfect here..." 04/11/1997 p.C8 Los Angeles Times "...A wild at heart, anarchic comedy that believes in living dangerously....GROSSE POINTE BLANK manages to be consistently surprising..." 04/11/1997 p.F1 James Berardinelli's ReelViews 8 of 10 ...The script for Grosse Pointe Blank is laced with acid wit. Its cynical observations about big business, as embodied by the formation of a "hit men's union", are deliciously on-target. The quirky dialogue is often clever, and the film as a whole contains its share of darkly funny moments. There are also a number of subtle sight gags, such as a cardboard cut-out of the Pulp Fiction cast that gets shot up during a gun fight. Grosse Pointe Blank...has an audacious edge... The New York Times 9 of 10 ...has the good idea to send a professional hit man to his high school reunion and the even better idea to make this high-concept story human... played irresistibly by John Cusack... - Janet Maslin

5 of 5 Quite the Film. Sunday, December 26, 1999 Mr. Bob from Ventura, California
May not be the best movie to some, but I thoroughly enjoyed it after watching it many times. It is just an awesome movie, with humor and a good plot. Rent it, like it, buy it, on DVD if you really like it. Was this review helpful?

THis is my favorite movie of all time, its funny as all heck, the cusacks both do excellently here: john, the dark, brodding, but romantic hitman with a wit to match his guns, and the, umm, different secretary played by his sister joan. dan akroyd comes Was this review helpful?
