Notes & Personnel Info | | Despite the fact that Greatest Songs Ever: Brazil misses many of the biggest names in Brazilian music, those that even a casual fan would know (Joao Bosco, Caetano Veloso, Tom Z?, Beth Carvalho, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jorge Ben, though the last two both have songs they've written included), it's still an eclectic blend of some of the country's music. Older stars like Elis Regina, Clara Nunes, and Wilson Simonal are on the album next to tracks from contemporary artists like Carlinhos Brown and Daniela Mercury. As on any self-respecting Brazilian-themed compilation, "Aquarela do Brasil" (performed here by Mercury), "Mas Que Nada" (covered nicely by Elza Soares), and the everlasting perennial summertime favorite "Garota de Ipanema" (with Leila Pinheiro taking the vocal duties) are included, which brings a nice mix of the very familiar and the perhaps unknown to the listener, and makes the album, despite its significant absences, still a pretty satisfying listen. ~ Marisa Brown | Producer: Luiz Garcia (Compilation) |
