Serving as a pop-perfect representation of Grammy nominees for the 2005 awards ceremony, this collection draws on a typically wide range of artists. Gretchen Wilson's hook-soaked rural anthem "Redneck Woman," Los Lonely Boys' Tex-Mex pop smash "Heaven," and the Black Eyed Peas party jam "Let's Get It Started" are just some of the varied tracks making up this compilation. R&B fans get to feast on fare by Alicia Keys (the piano ballad "If I Ain't Got You") and Usher (uber-slow jam "Burn"), pop-punkers can mosh to Green Day (the anthemic "American Idiot"), and baby-boomers are treated to Brian Wilson (a re-recorded "Good Vibrations").
And, of course, multiple-award nominee Kanye West contributes his clever "Through the Wire," sharing space with hip-hop brethren the Beastie Boys and their rapid-fire comeback single "Ch-Check It Out." Other highlights include strong cuts by Ray Charles and Norah Jones, U2, Prince, and Elvis Costello. Like prior collections, GRAMMY NOMINEES 2005 succeeds as an aural snapshot of the previous year.
