This little player is a nice flash alternative to higher priced hard drive models, so long as you have the SD cards already available. I bought the player knowing that I have a 512MB SD card I got with my digital camera and hardly ever use. If you don't already have a card, go out and buy and iPod shuffle (1GB - $150). It ends up being less expensive than buying this player and then a 1GB card, and iPods tend to be a little nicer.
That being said, this is a very nice player in a lot of respects. It is small and pretty cool looking (its more like pale blue lettering on a pale blue screen; the pic above is what the player looks like in the package with a screen sticker, not what it looks like actually turned on). The volume level is adequate for most people. You can't blow your brains out of the back of your head, and you probably couldn't hear the thing over a lawn mower or something like that. But it is adequate for regular listening. (A lot of people complain about the volume on other sites.)
There are a few downsides however. The thing takes half a minute to start up. I think it might have something to do with how much music you have on it, but I'm not sure. It seemed to start up faster when I only had a few songs on it, but maybe I was imagining things. There also seems to be some problems turning it on sometimes. You hit the "on" button and nothing happens. Maybe thats just mine, or maybe its a common thing. Also, the headphones they send you, which are a pretty decent pair, don't go all the way into the jack without some pushing. If the music sounds all weird, try pushing the plug harder into the jack. I thought mine was broken for about ten minutes because of that.
All in all the thing is a good value for the money. If you look around you can find it a little cheaper than $70, but this is the going rate. There are some pretty advanced features like the big display and options to play only songs by one artist or from one genre that you would only find on more expensive, hard drive models normally. Give it a shot. Its definitely better than a lot of the flash models out there. Was this review helpful?
