Living's rarely easy in the Chicago housing projects, but the Evans family never gives up trying to make the best of things. While Florida and James struggle to provide for the family, their sons J.J., an aspiring painter and amateur sharper and, Micheal, the undying political crusader, add to the family friction while their sister stands between them as the voice of reason. While they struggle to survive, life is at least, never boring. Good Times was that rare hit show which was a spin-off of the spin-off (TV's All In The Family begat Maude, which in turn spawned Good Times on CBS). Airing for five highly-rated seasons (1974-1979), the series altered America's cultural landscape by tackling topical, often controversial issues from a uniquely African-American perspective, while delivering heart-warming laughs. The Evans clan--headed by James (John Amos) and sharp-tongued mother Florida (Esther Rolle)--struggled against adversity while keeping their heads held high, striking a chord with audiences of all colors. The traiblazing show also made a star of jive-talkin' comedian Jimmie Walker whose catchphrase "DYN-O-MITE!" became part of '70s pop culture. This 2-disc set contains all the episodes from the series' first season.

Good Times, which ran on CBS-TV from 1974-1979, was a spin-off of the All In the Family spin-off, Maude. The series details the trials and tribulations of Florida Evans (who previously had worked as Maude's maid) and her family on the south side of Chicago. Florida (Esther Rolle) and her husband James (John Amos) are lower-middle class African-Americans living in a high rise housing project with their three children--wisecracking J.J. (Jimmy Walker, whose "Dy-No-Mite" became a national catchphrase), Thelma (Ja'Net DuBois), and Michael (Ralph Carter). James has trouble finding steady work, but through it all, the family sticks together. Veering between comedy and drama, Good Times was a landmark in U.S. television. This collection includes all 13 episodes from the first season.
