Simpson) for achievements in rap. The fact that he's seen fit to award this trophy to himself shouldn't blind you to WC's qualities as a rapper--which are self-evident--it's just that recognition can sometimes be a long time coming. GHETTO HEISMAN is West Coast rap, lighter and more musically sophisticated than its Southern counterpart, though no less concerned with matters street, thuggy and druggy. | | WC's old Westside Connection bandmates Ice Cube and Mack 10 make an appearance on the Funkadelic-influenced "Walk," while there's a hilarious skit ("Fake N***as") in the style of a gospel meeting, and "Tears of a Killa" shows the hard-scrabble flip side of thug life in the 'hood. GHETTO HEISMAN should, all things being equal, earn WC the genuine respect of both peers and public. |
