I bought this Garmin StreetPilot C550 for my daughter to help her find her way around L.A. I had it shipped to her there. It arrived looking brand new, like it had never been used. It works very good, and my daughter is no longer worried about finding her way. Bottom line......if daughter is happy....then I'm Happy. Good Job ...Buy.Com !! Was this review helpful?

The unit is great. It works right out of the box. The bluetooth capability is great - including the ability to pair it with the cell phone. My only complain is that on more than one occasions, when I came out of indoor parking, it took ages to acquire satellite signal. In fact, at least twice I had to actually power restart the system to get it working. Was this review helpful?

I own a vehicle with a built-in GPS system and purchased this GPS unit to use in rental vehicles.
The c550 takes at least one minute to find a satellite signal ... my vehicle one only needs a couple of seconds.
You cannot scroll the map to preview your route while in the "Show Map" screen. You can see a list of upcoming turns, but you can't actually move the map around to see the turns visually.
Whenever the c550 doesn't have a completely unobstructed view of the sky, the c550 loses its signal - this includes going into a .1 mile tunnel/underpass, a parking structure, and idling under the canopy area of a hotel. It takes about 30-45 seconds after getting back into an unobstructed view of the sky to reacquire the satellite signal.
Doing a search by name for a point of interest can take over a minute. I'm used to the instant results that my car's factory system delivers.
The bluetooth and MP3 player on the c550 works pretty well, but the above outweigh these features and make this GPS unit not worth its weight to me. I don't feel bad about paying for the factory navigation system anymore - it's a lot more dependable and quicker with responses than the c550. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 nice until it quit Thursday, June 05, 2008 A Customer from Olean, Ny
Great unit, great features, but lost satellite constantly. Luckily, customer service was friendly and I sent the unit in to be repaired. That's why I didn't go with the Magellan 4250- people said the customer service was poor if they had issues. Hoping I get it back and problem is resolved. Was this review helpful?

This is good GPS module, but horrible to put in a car. It's just too big and takes up too much space. The frame design is horrible. Functions good, but just not good to look at and feel in the car. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It works -- usually. Friday, May 30, 2008 A Customer from Decatur GA
A lot of functionality in a small box. It's possible to confuse it when streets are close together and you know a better way, but the voice is clear and the timing is good. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best co pilot yet Wednesday, May 28, 2008 usoblopez@yahoo.com from Miami, Florida
Incredible gadget to zip thru Southeast Florida traffic getting the correct direction the first time avoiding dead end streets and dividing neighborhood drain channels and traffic alerts, MP3 and blue tooth to go with it. Was this review helpful?
