    5 of 5 I LOVE THIS Monday, July 14, 2008
    chelsey from livermore, ca

I bought this for my husband who is an EMT. He is very computer and gadget challenged and he can use it with no problems. Good sound and the screen is easy to view. I bought this off of the Consumer Reports suggestion and am glad I did. It also tells you gas, restaurants, entertainment, etc. options near you when you are traveling. I highly recommend this.

3 of 5 Great GPS but no route planning Saturday, February 23, 2008
    Tony from Raleigh, NC
The unit works flawlessly and the user interface is very intuitive. I have owned the 660 since July 2007 and have never had an issue. It's great to be able to find coffee shops, etc, when in an unknown area. The suction cup doesn't work that great in cold weather which I noticed recently but never had an issue all summer/fall. My biggest complaint is that there is no route planning. I have taken a few long trips and typically have a planned route I want to follow but have no way to use the 660 to do this. You are stuck with whatever mapping algorithm they use. For the long trips I use a combination of google map print-outs and the gps. I normally research things to death and blindly assumed that a gps at this price-point would have route planning ... I was wrong. If I had known this ahead of time I would not have purchased this unit as route planning is important to me. If route planning is not an issue the 660 is an outstanding unit. The bluetooth capability is nice but not sure it is worth the extra money. Hope that helps.

1 of 5 Garmins fail on really basic functionality! Thursday, January 17, 2008
    rajdude from Woodbridge, VA
Garmins fail on really basic functionality! I don’t get it! This GPS (and for that matter all Garmin GPSes) fail miserably on the very basic thing a GPS is supposed to do and all these reviewers go ga-ga over them! Why? <br> <hr> <b>Don’t believe me or like what I am saying? </b> <br> <b>OK…imagine this: </b><br> You have told the Garmin to navigate to somewhere. It has plotted a route and you are on your way. How do you know which way you have to turn next, right or left? You look at the screen….nothing! Yeah it says turn in xx miles. But which way? <br> Sure you can click the top of the screen to get full details but why omit this essential arrow? The screen has plenty of space! <br> <b>Another fatal flaw – Voice prompts are way too late! </b> <br> This is not just my observation, just google it. You will find hundreds of pages mentioning about this problem. <br> <b>Again, imagine this scenario: </b><br> You are barreling down a crowded 6 lane highway at 70MPH and a split is coming up. You wanna know which side of the road you should stay on so that you take the correct turn. You look at the screen…of course nothing! (see above) Then you calm yourself by thinking, “ok this thing is going to tell me”….you wait. The turn is 2 miles away…………silence………now the turn is 1.5 miles away…….everyone around you is changing lanes and trying to get into the correct lane……but you?.....listening to silence………you start sweating……..1 mile!........nothing…… silence!!....you are really frustrated now……..0.7 miles before the damn GPS FINALLY says “left turn in 0.7 miles”. Ooops ! But you are in the right lane. The split is coming up fast. You have seconds to go to the correct lane, but there are 8 lanes on the highway now. You have to go across 3 or 4 lanes in seconds. Man! You are toast! This can easily get you in an accident, I know because I almost got into an accident the other day. <br> <b>Here is a similar situation: </b> <br> You are in a 40mph 4 lane suburban road ….your turn is coming up. This thing will tell you like, 0.5 miles before the turn! And then right at the turn! That night I almost skidded off the road when this thing told me at the last moment that the turn is here. <br> Of course people will say this is user error but I’m not a novice. I am a power user of GPS. I have been using them for 5-6 years now. Most other GPSes tell you the next turn right on the screen with a simple arrow. Good ones start alerting you 2 miles before the turn comes. Then once at 1 mile, then again at 500 yards and then once again at the turn. But this one…only once before the turn and that too ……way too late! <br> Yeah some reviewers call this good feature “Too chatty”, yeah right! <br> I talked to Garmin about this flaw and basically the answer I got was the same answer others get…..they don’t care. Needless to say My Garmin 660 is going back to the store. <br> One last thing….it is missing an indication of the N direction on the screen. That is useful and is included by most other GPSes. <br> <hr> <b>Pros: </b> <br> Good interface.<br> Stable functionality.<br> Lots of features<br> Traffic data is awesome! You have to experience it to believe it<br> <br> <b>Cons: </b> <br> Missing the very basic navigation guidance features. <br> Poor traffic info reception, the antenna design could be better/incorporated into the unit.<br> Suction mount keeps falling off. <br> FM Radio transmitter is very weak<br> <br> <b>Bottom Line: </b> <br> Missing Turn direction and late Navigation prompts are fatal flaws in an otherwise awesome product. <br> I will NOT recommend any Garmin GPS until they fix these problems.

Choose this GPS after reading reviews from consumer reports and Buy.com. I made the right choice. Easy setup, ease of use. I could talk about all the nice features but I will just say instead, if you are thinking of buying this GPS, buy it.

4 of 5 Great product except the car charger does not fit! Monday, November 26, 2007
Judy from New Hyde Park, NY
The product is great but expensive! But the car charger does NOT fit into the unit! Will need to call GARMIN for a replacement. Also, I have to call the tech support to adjust the software program to get to the correct destination. Otherwise, you will be in the vincinity of your final destination.

5 of 5 Fantastic Travel Guide and more Wednesday, July 11, 2007
    A Customer from Bradenton, FL
I have used it in Orlando, Atlanta and Houston and I am very happy with the results. Voice prompts are very timely. Sometimes I didn't follow its directions on the routes I knew better and it quickly recalculated its route. In Georgia we wanted to visit DeSoto waterfalls and I got the coordinates for the parking lot from the website and Perito took us there (my kids have already named her Perito). The interface is so easy to use my seven year old can find places of his interest. My wife uses its hands free bluetooth interface with her cell phone. I have put a 1 Gig sd card and its getting filled up with MP3 songs. I didn't use the mount that came with it. I bought the beanbag mount that sits on the dashboard (no sticky tabs) and I can easily move it from my car to minivan, to rental car. Overall its worth the price and I am very happy with its performance. I have seen my friends buying cheaper alternatives, getting lost all the time and then throw them away in a few months.

    therocko316 from New York,NY
The Nuvi 660 works perfectly right out of the box. Setup took less than 5 minutes and I was on the road in no time. Also the traffic updates come in handy big time. Good job buy.com, and good job to Garmin.

5 of 5 On the level of built in units Tuesday, June 12, 2007
    A Customer from Greenville, SC
I have used built in units which stored nav info on DVD and this unit is far faster and was 1/4 the price of most built in units. Touch screen is a great plus compared to ones built into cars. Entering destination is very easy. There is nothing negative I can say about the Nuvi 660..

    5 of 5 WOW! Tuesday, June 05, 2007
    delis97362 from Largo Florida
I absolutely love this thing. I landed in San Jose this week, next moring had to go to 3 supply houses.......bing, bang and boom. Rearly did I look at my NUVI casuse the audio guide is so effecient that I relied on the voice more than the screen. Milpitas and San Jose is tuff to travel. Not with my NUVI! I missed a couple of turns......No problem! Nuvi "re-calcuated" and brought right back on track. The screen is perfect in daylight and at night. The Bluetooth feather is a must! The FM broadcast is nice but not a necessity because the NUVI is loud and clear on it's own. I would like Garmin to make folders for "saves" instead of one big pile of "favorites". I bought mine here at Buy.com. It is well worth the $600+. The is a classic example where cheap doesn't pay. The voice guided prompts (new feature) tells me the name of the next street or exit, how far until I turn and when. I love this thing.....It saved me at least a half a day. I was using my laptop GPS until I ran off the road and almost got killed 3 weeks ago. So! What else is there to say? Nothing! Just don't go the cheap route and you'll be happy.

    5 of 5 Great GPS Monday, May 28, 2007
    A Customer from Hoboken, N.J.
First, I ordered this unit late on a Tuesday afternoon with second day shipping. Two and a half days later on Thursday I received it as advertised. Kudos to buy.com, well done. Now the product. GPS works as advertised. Really accurate, fast to recalculate when I choose a different route and very easy to use and understand. Owner's manual not really needed. Spoken directions are very clear and POI data is great. No complaints so far, but then again I've been a Garmin owner for many years prior and I know their products are awesome! Here's the only issue, and it's not Garmin's issue (or Buy.com). Traffic data is less than accurate, almost downright useless so far. Last Sunday afternoon it missed miles (I'm not exagerating) of traffic on a major interstate (I-95) and then even worse, a minimum hour delay crossing the Hudson River from Manhattan to N.J. According to the traffic data, everything on my route was free and clear. After writting to the company (Total Traffic Network, NOT Garmin) they say they are "making strides" yada yada yada. They have 3 months to convince me to part with $60/year for this service. They have a looooong way to go. I am not impressed. Overall though, the Garmin Nuvi is great and so far I am very satisfied with the product and the purchase.

    5 of 5 Wonderful Mother's Day Gift! Monday, May 28, 2007
    A Customer from Winnsboro, Texas
My Garmin was a Mother's Day gift and I can't think of anything I could have liked more. It is wonderful. I sell Real Estate and am in my car a lot - hunting new places frequently. It seems to be very accurate, even speaking the names of the streets or roads to turn on. It is also great to carry as a photo viewer, mp3 player, blue tooth speaker for my cell phone - and basically portable computer. I can even look up info I would normally use my computer for like restaurants, etc. locations and phone #'s. I set locations as favorites, then wherever I am, I can go to that option and it will take me there. I also purchased the bean bag base - I can set on my dash, console, or just about anywhere. I love my Garmin nuvi 660.

    5 of 5 Good choice Sunday, February 11, 2007
    A Customer from Prescott, AZ
Of all the choices out there this was the best. The Garmin name has always been worthy of trust and the Nuvi 660 delivers. The routing is the same or better than I would have picked and even after missing a turn, the unit rerouted me accurately and fast. The traffic function is a nice addition although without a helper you should pull over to use it-a voice announcement would be nice.

    5 of 5 Nuvi 660 Wednesday, February 07, 2007
    jhum1 from Brooklyn, New York
Nuvi 660 is my second Garmin, upgraded from the Streetpilot C330 Buy.com had by far the BEST price, it was at least $150 cheaper than local retail stores plus no tax. The Nuvi 660 has superior satellite reception and display compared to my older c330. I would lose the signal under on the lower level of a bridge or under a train overpass, not a problem with the Nuvi. The Nuvi also seems to reroute itself better when it realizes I want a different route rather than trying to bring me back to the original route. The only thing it is missing is route exclusion, when you can delete a highway or a road you don't want to use. Don't know how that option really works since I don't have a Magellan Roadmate. It could also use a voice option, the Nuvi voice sounds to computerized and choppy, the Street Pilot c330 has a much smoother voice. I Also read on a previous post that you can save a route, but I can't seem to figure it out. Overall a great GPS.

Hands-free calling: this works pretty fantastic if connected to the car stereo sounds great and even if otherwise its volume is prety loud. In addition, easily look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or from your phone’s call history log. Don’t know the phone number for your destination? Simply find and dial it from nuvi's extensive points of interest database — including hotels, restaurants, stores, and attractions - this works like a wonder in new places you dont know Navigate with Ease : "no clutter" is the key word. See More with a Widescreen Display. landscape display has white backlight and a touchscreen for easy use. The screen is bright and can be seen even on sunny days. Avoid Traffic Tie-Ups it automatically Steers clear of traffic and that too in a pretty accurate and fast manner. Enjoy Wireless FM Audio Transmission : This feature is the only black spot in a otherwise very comfortable use. Go Beyond Navigation: MP3 player, audio book player, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, favorite POI, find any location in a new area, highly mobile, text to voice is precise, and it remembers the track that you have once taken

5 of 5 Best GPS yet - and handheld too! Wednesday, November 01, 2006
    A Customer from Media PA
I have been using the Nuvee 660 for just a few days, so this is a preliminary review. Compared to difficult to use (obtuse German design) factory installed GPS systems that cost me thousands of dollars, the Nuvee 660, for less than $800.00 is a bargain. Considering its feature set and performance it is an amazing buy! The display is clean and uncluttered, the controls are easy to use and it is seems quite accurate. The text to speech works flawlessly so far and the bluetooth interface with my Blackberry functions perfectly making a strong hands-free phone system. It loaded my address book without any problems and the audio quality from the unit was good. I have noted two negatives thus far. The audio quality using the FM broadcast feature through the car radio was mediocre but this could be an issue with the car radio as well, but since the Nuvee can play MP3s - this is a drawback, you better stick with your iPod. I took the Nuvee to NYC for a weekend and found that satellite acquisition walking around the upper East Side (yes - you can use this walking and it is great for finding restaurants) was often difficult. I imagine the taller buildings wreck havoc with the signals. Interestingly enough, it worked flawlessly around the lower builidings of Greenwich Village and around the Holland Tunnel area. So far, I would give this GPS two thumbs up and five stars. Garmin is to be congratulated for designing and manufacturing a quality product. It is nice to get your money's worth on a tech product for a change!

5 of 5 Garmin Nuvi Is Great Monday, October 30, 2006
    A Customer from Randolph, NJ
I had a Garmin Streetpilot 2620 which was terrible. I sold it and researched the newer units. Originally, I was not going to buy another Garmin but the Nuvi 660 caught my attention. I purchased it and could not be more pleased. It is simple to use and very accurate. Additionally, the screen is bright and clear, and the graphics are supurb. It has the added benefit of being extremely light and portable. I highly recommend it.

5 of 5 Great Navigation System!!!! Congrat's to Garmin!!! Friday, October 27, 2006
    Yakov from Bklyn, NY 11229
This is my first Navigation system ever. I'm very happy that I bought the system; it offers many options and features. The main feature is that my phone, LG 8300 can connect with the Bluetooth to Nuvi 660, I can call from Nuvi 660, and the sound is great, like the person is sitting next to you. I’ve even tried the music option, and it sounded great, great option! I've tried it during my family's and my trip to NJ and it was very easy to use and brought us to the place without any delays or mistakes, and the traffic alert was very helpful. Up to this day i think this is the best system navigation.

5 of 5 Best electronic invention since the cell phone! Thursday, October 26, 2006
    A Customer from Seattle, WA
The Nuvi 660 is the latest in the line of Garmin GPS units. However, Garmin really went all out on this unit with major upgrades. For example, my close friend’s StreetPilot 320 has a very similar look to the interface. However, that is where the similarities end. The Nuvi 660 is much faster, acquires satellites in about 30 seconds, and zips through recalculations. GPS features are only the start of what you get with Nuvi. You also get a complete directory of gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and basically a complete yellow pages for the entire country! If you like MapQuest or CitySearch, then Nuvi is like having both of those online services in your car while you are on the road. For example, on a recent trip down the coast, we used Nuvi to find out what restaurants were nearby. Then, when the check engine light came on, we used Nuvi to find the nearest auto service center. My wife, initially a skeptic, is now completely sold on the security and amazing functionality of the Nuvi 660. I travel a lot and have personally used 5 different models of GPS units. Now, I can undeniably say that the Nuvi 660 is by far the best GPS I have ever used. If you are shopping for the next invention that will change your life, invest in the Nuvi 660!

5 of 5 Sweet and Easy to use Wednesday, October 25, 2006
    WBP from Centreville, VA
New to the market, Buy.com was out-of-stock when I first reviewed this GPS system. I created an alert to notify me when it became available, and several days later I received an email alerting me the Nuvi 660 was in-stock. Ordered online and received promptly on the delivery day. The GPS is feature rich but extremely easy to use. It has an extremely clean look with only an on/off button on the top flush mounted so one has to know where it is to even see it. Navigation to features is all done from the bright, larger than most, touch screen. Already preload with the US map, I attached the mounting to the car's windowshield with the suction cup mounting, attached power to Nuvi 660 from the cigarette adapter which is included, and I was on my way. The feature I love the most is the FM transmitter which allows one to hear MP3 files through the car stereo system without attaching any wiring, as well as hearing navigation directions. Haven't had an problem going to new locations. Finding food/lodging/gas stations/attractions/etc. is at the touch of the screen. Extremely pleased with the Nuvi 660.

5 of 5 Best Pocket GPS On the Market Tuesday, October 24, 2006
    Thomas N. from Houston, Texas
This is the first GPS unit I owned and couldn't be more pleased. After consulting with friends who have owned multiple GPS units and reading various reviews, this is one of the nicest, feature-packed, and most importantly, accurate unit on the market. A useful feature for me is the integrated traffic receiver. Since I couldn't afford to move closer into town, I use the real-time traffic report to avoid heavy traffic jams, accidents, and road constructions. The purchase immediately paid dividends. About a month ago, I took a longer route to get to the highway because the street I usually take was under construction. I've driven sparingly on that alternate route for 4 years and never realized there was a small intersecting street in a business district I can cut through to get to the highway more quickly. The Nuvi 660 pointed that out, basically shaving off over a mile in distance, traffic congestion, and plenty of frustration. Last week, I took this Nuvi on an East Coast trip to Washington, D.C., VA, NJ, PA, NY and its performance exceeded my expectations. It founded just about every addresses and POIs I entered, except for one because the store recently changed its name. Needless to say, I never got lost. Two other people with me had GPS systems, one was a different Garmin model, and the other with a Toyota GPS - hands down the Nuvi 660 outshined them in accuracy and user interface. In one instance, I searched for the nearest Target in Fairfax, VA. Not only it got me there, but told me where to drive around inside the shopping center's parking lot, leading me right up to the front of the store! GPS owners tell me having one will change my life... I'm a believer now. Its performance and aesthetics is worth the price of this Nuvi. Even my wife thought this was money well spent. By the way, the unit didn't take my 4-gig SD card, but accepted the 2-gig, and 1-gig SD cards. Maybe Garmin will eventually have updates that will read the 4-gig card.

4 of 5 Very Nice Package Tuesday, October 17, 2006
    HishamZ from New Jersey
This unit has alot of the features you'd hope for in a portable GPS (see the specifications). I think they could have done a better job with the menu system, it takes too many clicks and too many layers of menus to get to what you want - and then back out to the map. I think volume options should have been easier to get to. Also, while you can see a list of all turns in the directions for your trip, it does not tell you total miles in the trip on that screen. Also, I had difficulty getting GPS signal on a very cloudy day. I know I am highlighting the negatives, but I gave it 4 stars. These are all minor points, and should not deter you from buying this unit. Overall I am happy with it. Buy.com had the best price for it too!

    5 of 5 Nuvi 660 Tops All Tuesday, October 17, 2006
A Customer from North Reading, MA
I had a Garmin GPS-V for several years, and decided to replace it with a newer, easier to use device. After much research, I chose the Garmin nuvi 660. I found the best price at buy.com and was thrilled at the speed of shipment (especially since Garmin was just beginning to ship and many suppliers did not have the unit in stock). I have been extremely pleased with its ease of use, clarity of display and other features. I have used the traffic report feature and have not found it to be timely (although I haven't really given it much of a trial). The FM transmitter is quite finicky, but it's possible to adjust it to get good sound. Photos viewed on the device are clear, bright and sharp. There are a few things that could be improved a bit ... when searching for locations that are out of the area, it does not let you narrow results by state. Instead, it lists all occurances of the city entered, along with their states, but lists them randomly; not by distance or state. The "Favorites" has place for address and phone, which it automatically fills when saving a looked up service. But there is no way to enter or edit address information or to nicely format hand-entered phone numbers. All-in-all I am very pleased with the unit.

Ever worry about how long it will take to get up and running with a new gadget? Well, I am here to tell you that you have no worries with the Garmin 990. Incredible to say the least. You will be on your way in minutes without having to memorize layers of complicated screens. And setting up my blackberry was just as easy. Don't even consider another brand! This one has it all....

    5 of 5 The Nuvi 660 is awesome Monday, October 16, 2006
    btaylor14 from Carlsbad NM
Pros: The new Nuvi 660 GPS is a terrific addition to your auto. It has a large easily-readable screen showing the locstion of your car.. You can add destinations easily, just like csr GPS systems, but this one seems much easier to do. In addition to maps, the Nuvi has a travel companion which can play MP3 music files you download. It also has a picture viewing screen for your pictures. You can also hear audiobooks while travelling. The amazing thing to me was the sound can be heard through your car's sound system without an additional FM transmitter. The manual comes on a CD ROM and is very clear and concise for a beginner like me. Tech support is astounding when you can get it.. Cons: Somehat expensive. Long wait on hold to get tech support.

5 of 5 THIS IS SUCH A SWEET DEVICE Sunday, October 08, 2006
    TAHA from WATERFORD, MI
I just got this new garmin nuvi 660 on October 4, 2006. My decision to select it was after a very long time of searching and comparing. Here is what I think about this product: Pros: vivid large screen, starts up the system very fast (I would say around 20 to 30 sec. when cold), locking to satellites is super fast (when warm, it takes no time) AND I MEAN IT. It has the finest reception. The Bluetooth connection capability is very good. People on the other end do not complain about the voice quality. In fact, it was assumed that I was speaking through the phone’s speaker. SO FAR, THE REAL TIME TRAFFIC FEATURE HAS BEEN GOOD SO FAR. Cons: the device does not play any audio files but the MP3 formatted ones. Also, the wireless FM transmitter is not as clean and clear as I would expect, but not too bad. Maybe if I could find a cleaner channel, I would be able to get a better voice quality from my car speakers. In short, I have had a chance to try to the garmin M5 before this one. The M5 was fairly ok. However, it never locks when I’m inside the apartment. On the other hand, nuvi 660 was waaaaay better in this area. I received a full reception while in the apartment. Moreover, the POI database is pretty covering everything I think I need. Lots of POIs. In general, I’m very very pleased with the nuvi 660. It is by far the best device I could possibly get. Screen size is big, and its performance is great. I would definitely suggest this product. I love it despite the fact it hurts me when thinking about its price.
