Navigate With Ease

Simple navigation at an affordable price — that's nuvi 250. This entry-level personal travel assistant comes with preloaded maps for North America or Europe. For added flexibility, choose nuvi 270 with preloaded maps for both continents or save more with nuvi 200 which offers less map coverage at a lower price. Like all nuvi 200-series members, the 250 features an easy-to-use colorful touchscreen and ultra-slim design — perfect for everyday navigation.

nuvi 250 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nuvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. In addition, nuvi 250 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.

Like the rest of the nuvi 200-series, nuvi 250 sports a sleek, slim design and fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot.

Navigation is just the beginning. nuvi 250 includes many travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. It also comes with Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map. Optional plug-in SD cards let you add additional features. Purchase Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions and our SaversGuide for information on nearby merchants offering discounts to customize nuvi for your travel needs.

5 of 5 Great and Simple Sunday, March 01, 2009
A Customer from Baltimore, MD
This product works quickly...it doesnt get bogged down by trying to process all the unecessary junk info that some bulkier products do. One problem: you cannot avoid a specific road. In MD, if I want to avoid just I-95 or just I-695 (my daily route uses both) , I have to avoid "all highways" instead of just bypassing one.

5 of 5 Good Value Monday, February 09, 2009
A Customer from Baltimore, MD
Gets the job done. I havent tried to update the US maps online or download any other additional features (my office is brand new and not on the map) but all else is wonderful. You can save Lat & Lon or save addresses. It updates directions quickly when you go the wrong direction. You cant avoid individual roads or specific highways. I have found a handful of roads not listed on the preset maps.

5 of 5 Great GPS Wednesday, January 21, 2009
JeffRo from Athens, GA
I bought the Garmin nuvi 250 and it is exactly what I wanted. A basic GPS that is easy to use and works as expected. It is easy to see during the day or night. Battery life is also very good.

5 of 5 Nice GPS Wednesday, March 05, 2008
offroad248 from Hicksville, NY
My previous GPS was the Garmin C320 before I upgraded to the Nuvi 250. I've also used the Nuvi 350 for a week in Tahoe, Ca. The Nuvi 250 is a great unit as far as built quality. The screen i much more resistance to day light glare than the old C320 model. As far as tracking, I found that Garmin is very good at tracking the satellite even with the old chip before they started using the SiRFstarIII GPS chip. The Nuvi is obviously more compact than the C-series, but the battery doesn't last as long though 4-5 hrs is still very good. Basically the Nuvi 200 series is as good or better in some ways than the more expensive Nuvi 300 series if you live without the bells and whistles. Another advantage is that the 200series has the antenna built in where the 300 series you have the flip-up. I find that the antenna has to be flip up to get a better signal. The Nuvi 200 series has the same map coverage and the 6 million POIs as the 300 series as well. I also found that the boot up time was a bit faster than the 300 series. Though as any GPS on the market, you cannot just blindly drive as the GPS tells you. You do still need to verify visually once in a while with the Nuvi. Example: I-80E in NJ splits where I-280E is to the left and I-80E is to the right, but the Nuvi tells you to bear LEFT even though the map clearly highlights the road (I-80E) going RIGHT. I went this route twice in 2 weeks and same thing. Yes, it does happen, but then Garmin has shown me some local roads over the years which made my travels much shorter.

5 of 5 Total Satisfaction Thursday, December 27, 2007
J Miller from Randolph, WI
This unit is great. It is nice and small so we will be able to easily pull it out of the vehicle when we lodge for the evenings, etc. I am really looking forward to using it very frequently. With the holiday rush I was extremely impressed with the arrival date as well.

5 of 5 Great Buy, Convenient and Accurate Saturday, December 22, 2007
Matt from Tyler, TX
Great product all around. Small and compact enough to put in your pocket, yet spot on with directions. Used it a couple of times on road trips and if you miss your turn, or go a different way, it automatically re-routes you to the next quickest or shortest way (depending which you select). One cool thing I found was when I turned the device on and didn't choose a destination, it showed where I was, surrounding streets and local landmarks; all very useful since I'm in a new town. Points of Interest are convenient when on the highway and looking for a quick bite to eat- you just add it as a Waypoint and it leads you right to it. After you reach your Waypoint, it sets you right back on track to your original destination. Simple to use and an all around great buy.

4 of 5 Nice Unit that's Easy to Use Monday, August 13, 2007
pbelella from Smithsburg, MD
Just returned from a trip from Maryland to Florida to South Carolina and back, and generally had good luck with the Garmin Nuvi 250. It's quick to calculate routes, is very accurate, and I love its small size and overall ease of use. My wife is not a techie in the least, but she had no problem learning how to use it. I gave it a 4 out of 5 (as opposed to a 5 out of 5) for a few reasons: (1) I don't like the fact that if you're in the middle of a trip, and want to find a certain point of interest, you can't simply cancel the search and have the unit go right back to your current trip, rather than having to "Back out" of your search. A "Cancel Search" option would be nice. (2) The POI database is a bit dated, as some others have said. Not sure how long it's been since the unit I bought was made and programmed. (3) A few times the unit made questionable routing calculations. These appear to be based on whatever rules the programmer followed in coding the routing software. There were several instances where a U-turn was legal, safe, and called for (i.e., at a light at an intersection of a divided four-lane road) but the unit would not direct that action. A minor inconvenience though. I paid $316 US on Buy.com, and would buy the unit again without hesitation.
