5 of 5 Running and flying and geo-caching.... Thursday, July 27, 2006
Joe Wessels from Dover, Delaware

When it comes to getting your money's worth, this little GPS unit does the job. I fly an ultralight aircraft (powered paraglider), run to stay in shape so I can continue to fly, and enjoy an outdoor activity called geo-caching, where you find hidden containers using GPS coordinates provided by the person who hid it. The Forerunner 201 gives me the information I need for all three activities. I can see how fast I am traveling, find my way back on long cross-country trips in the air, and get within a few feet of the cache I am trying to find. And the free application program lets me take a close look at my performance. Operation of the Forerunner 201 is simple and the large numbers on the screen are easy to read for these 54-year old eyes to see without using my reading glasses. For the cost of the unit - this is a good deal.

4 of 5 Garmin Forerunner 201 Vs. 205 Wednesday, July 19, 2006
BQMD from Litchfield, IL
Some of you may be considering wether to spend the extra money to get the new Garmin 205. Well I made the decision to get the 201 and I am very satisfied. Unless the slightly smaller size and the marginally improved GPS are important, I would save a little money and get the 201. Maybe later when the 305 falls in price I'll get it. I really want the cadence add on for my road bike, but it is currently not a bargin. But in the case of the 201 once again it pays to buy the good, although old, technology at a discount.

4 of 5 Relatively Simple GPS unit Monday, March 27, 2006
A Customer from Fairfax, VA
So long as you let the GPS unit do its initial calibration in an open area outside for a few minutes, it performs quite well. It does lose some signal under tree cover, but generally only for brief periods of time. Its sturdy, has a VERY good battery life, and now at around $100 is a heck of a bargain. Plus, you can get extra (Free) software from garmin to review your runs on your pc! (make sure you have a SERIAL cable port)

5 of 5 My wife Loves it! Sunday, January 29, 2006

I purchased the 201 for my wife and she absolutely loves it! It works perfect and does everything that she expects. She now wants to purchase one for her training partner.

4 of 5 Great for the running geek Tuesday, September 06, 2005
JP from Queens, NY
I bought the Forerunner 201 just so I could better judge my running distance and pace. It shows me both and works like a charm. I run in a wooded area so the GPS often stops until I enter a clearing but it is able to predict my path; it needs to constantly see the satellites. The free software (from the website) is excellent. Show a little diagram of your running path, the elevation and your speed & pace over the distance traveled. If you're following a training schedule this will really help. Works best in an open environment, so trail runners may be frustrated by the weak satellite signal messages but will get some use from it.

5 of 5 Great electronic training partner! Sunday, May 01, 2005
Rick from St. Louis, MO
I've had a 201 for a year and it lives up to the marketing hype in every way--accurate, easy to use, and I love the ability to bring run data into my PC for analysis and mapping. The Logbook software that comes with the Forerunner is fine but go to www.sportsim.com to download (much) more capable software. Since I've bought mine, 3 running buddies have bought one and soon that will be four. Now I need to find a way to convince my wife that I really need a 301.

5 of 5 To There and Back With Style and Accuracy Monday, November 15, 2004
A Customer from Farmington, MI
This unit does it all. It's many features are easy to configure to your specific needs and access afterword. It's very light and, when I compared to my auto odometer, extremely accurate. The auto off/on feature (if selected) is wonderful for runners. Within 1 second of coming to a full stop the timer stops. Move just one step and it starts again. The readout is large so even while trail running, reading the screen is easy. The memory is great once you've mastered accessing it. The map feature showing where you've run, while small, is still easy to read. The buttons are conveniently placed and work well. It's not as expensive, has more features, is more accurate by virture of its greater ability to read the GPS signal and is much lighter than the Nike or Timex units (all verified in side-by-side comparisons) and it's all in one small, convenient unit. This is a great all-in-one training aid. I'm glad it bought it, you will be too!
