| | | With the eTrex Legend, Garmin has loaded a full basemap of North and South America into one small unit. The Legend is also designed to provide precise GPS positioning using correction data obtained from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). This product will provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections. The eTrex Legend is also equipped with additional memory totaling eight megabytes. The added memory allows the eTrex Legend to accept downloaded map data from Garmin''s entire line of MapSource CD-ROMs, including Fishing Hot Spots. The eTrex Legend comes in a brightly-colored translucent blue case that really makes the unit stand out. New to the product design, Garmin will include marine aids to navigation in addition to the basemap. These navigational aids will be pre-loaded into each unit from the factory.

i just bought this GPS for my boyfriend and he LOVES it! He loves his new "toy" and sometimes im sorry i got it for him when he informs me of the sunrise and sunset time of the particular area we are driving through about ever 20 minutes! But i must say it is very cool; even i figured it out by myself. The maps that are already in it arent that detailed but they serve their purpose well. and of course, being water proof is a plus because he has been known to drop MANY things in the lake while fishing Was this review helpful?

I could not be more happy with my purchase of the Legend. It provides a great deal of features packed into a very small form factor. Screen is very clear and bright. The backlight is great and effects battery life in a very reasonable way. A very popular model so there is lots of community support and accessories available. 8 MB of memory is sufficient for every mapping program available. Very reliable thus far, I only lose signal under pretty dense foilage conditions. Perfect consumer good! Was this review helpful?

I bought one of these for my old man (to replace a dead first-generation GPS unit). It is wonderful! He does a lot of motorcycling, and the maps go down to the county highway level which is good enough for him. About the size of a cell phone and it's watertight. Higher detail maps are available for purchase but I think they are useless (GPS doesn't work that great downtown, and I'm not going to drive and play with a GPS at the same time anyway).
A few minor cons: no power cable, not the most intuitive UI, and he accidentally left it on while riding. My mom saw the trip log and saw that he was doing 98mph part of the way. He got chewed out, which means *I* got chewed out. ;) Was this review helpful?

I recently purchase this GPS about a week ago. I am an Astronomer and I use it to find precise locations (LAT/LONG) so I can find objects in the sky. I love it! its small and very portable. I carry it in my pocket, travel with it in my vehicle and do long trips with it. Its great when I go fishing and bike riding too. I can mark my exact location so I can come back to it later.
The faults that I find are that the default maps that come with it, is not all that great. It’s just the basic highway maps only with minimal road detail. The MapSource Metroguide-USA CD you have to purchase separately is about 100.00 a little bit more then what I want to spend but worth it because it has ALL road detail of USA and address lookups, plus routing.
I think the price for the product is reasonable only 150.00 after rebate compared to other similar products of the same kind cost more. I would recommend this GPS over others by far... it’s a great little tool for the outdoorsman.

I've just started using this Garmin Legend. It seems to work about as well as I expected. It doesn't have built in maps with as high a detail as I wanted. The really bad part is that the "data cable" provided is just that - a data cable. You can't hook the thing to an external power source. Garmin sells such a cable on their web page for $50, which is *way* too much. Guess I'll have to hack the cable they supplied (sigh). Was this review helpful?
