I researched dashboard mounts extensively before buying this. I recommend this mount to anybody who wishes their GPS to be within a safer & more comfortable reaching distance than their windshield as well as to anybody who lives in a state that requires dashboard mounts (as Illinois does). I bought this product over six months ago. This Garmin mount seems to be the only one that allows the GPS to swivel 360 degrees around allowing you to place the mount in any position on your dash & still have the GPS facing you. It stays in place and has never budged under any driving conditions. I have recommended this to many people; even people who have seen it through my car windows & asked about it. I live a few miles from St. Louis. Missouri does not require this type of mount; yet many friends & people there have seen my mount and prefer it to their window mounts. To keep it from discoloring from the sun, I place it under my car seat when I'm not using it. It still looks new and I use it nearly daily. It’s a fantastic product.

This works so well, I had to have another one for my Wife's GPS unit. It's great to be able to easily put the unit on the floor when parked, to protect the GPS from heat and theft. No problems with the unit slipping off the dash.

It is a lot better than the suction mount that comes with the unit. In fact the suction mount is broken and that is when I need a mount. This mount is very secure sitting on my dash; I tried corner and brake harder than I usually would and it just stay put. It is not as big as I thought and I just put everything in a ziplock bag and put them away until I use them.

Purchased this mount after the suction mount that came with my Nuvi broke. Used the mount in a rented moving truck for a 1200 mile drive and not once did it budge on the dash but was easily removed to the floor to hide the unit.

The suction mount that came with my Garmin GPS was always falling off my windshield. I was skeptical of the friction mount, but I had to try something for fear my GPS would break from falling so many times. It works great! The friction mount holds my Garmin securely. It doesn't budge from my dashboard, even with sharp turns or fast braking, yet I can pick it right up to hide the GPS or to dust off the dash. No more suction cup marks on the windshield!

One of the easiest mount one can ever find..... This is one of the best accesories I have brought for my car. It holds my GPS firmly and now I dont have to worry about the GPS unit falling from the windsheild. The gadget serves the purpose it is meant for. Product with excellent quality and performance for this price.

The dash holder is much more convenient than the stick on the Windshield holder. It makes it convenient to relocate or lock up the connected device. I am very happy with it. It's a little more costly than others of the same style. The instructions were almost non-existant, but it was pretty intuitive to figure out.

The Garmin GPS-supplied suction cup mount is only fair. This friction mount sits solidly on the dashboard and makes hiding the GPS while parked a snap.

This is the easiest mount you will ever find!!! I tried the same type from a car rental company during a road trip and found it some much easy than the suction mount. Not to mention that some local officials won't allow the mount on windshields and there is no other place that the suction mount really mounts on the dashboard :-). The portable friction mount is well worth the money...

I had a problem with the window shield suction mount came with my GPS - with temperature changes, it never stayed on the window. Now with this mount, it sits well on my dashboard and when I leave my car, I can set the whole thing on the floor not to have my Germin visible from outside. It's a simple structure with 4 bean bags but well made. I recommend this product.

The dash in my car has at least a 30 degree slope to it. I was apprehensive that the "friction" would not be enough to hold it in place. After several weeks now I don't think it has budged at all.

This is what I have been looking for in a dash mount for my Garmin. It is easy to just put on your dash and conforms to any vehicle. It does not move around on the dash and is very stable. I love the ease of use and that you can adjust the screen up and down and side to side. You won't be disappointed with this one. It is easy to remove and hide under your seat. Buy.com is wonderful too.

This product will protect your vehicle from breakins since you can hide your Garmin from sight. It's also great because I can easily transport it from one vehicle to another.

I must admit I was skeptical about this product. However, it works just as advertised. Extremely easy to use and to take on trips and will not move or slip while you are driving (not even a little). This is a great product for anyone who is sick and tired of having your gps fall from the windshield during cold or hot weather or otherwise. The bag also makes it easy to store in your car without the tell tale sign of a suction cup mark on the windshield that some thieves look for.

Great for travel. Went through three suction cups in hot climates and rental cars before finding this. Suction cup "melts" to the class, gets dirty, and becomes useless after multiple trips. This will NEVER wear out.

One of the best reasons for shopping " On Line " is the feed back from other buyers. After buying a Garmin 250 W from Buy.Com, I purchased a dash mount from Walmart. {The window attachment didn't work for me- wires hanging etc.}. The Walmart unit was a plate that the suction mount attached to. OK, but still not right! I went back to the Buy,Com site, and there was a review of the Garmin dash mount. Took the unit back to Walmart for a refund, and ordered The Garmin dash mount based on the review. Few days later the Garmin dash unit arrived,and What a Difference from the Walmart unit. About the same price, but a better design in every way. Now I have a complete GPS system that works for me.

The mount was set on my dashboard and regardlesss of stopping, turning, quick acceleration or short stopping, the item has not moved ~ not even a little. Perfect, much better than the suction mount that falls off withing minutes of placing it there!

The Garmin Nuvi is a great GPS. The problem is the suction cup is very poor. The new base has made it much easier to use without it constantly falling off the window.

This mount is perfect to make it almost anti theft if you remember to take it with you. The mount will not slide around on the dash not even when you go around corners. Does not block your view while driving and a great price from BUY.COM I highly recommend this mount to anyone who does want not to have something stuck to your window.

This mount is a great accessory to my Garmin c550. Ball & socket design makes for easy adjustments of GPS unit. I prefer this to the dash mount used on my old Garmin c330. Good price too!

This Garmin mount is great. It is very easy to use, and works great. This mount allows you to easily mount the Garmin, but it doesn't block your view while driving. The mounts that come with Garmins present a new blind spot. This sits easily on the dashboard, easy to adjust and doesn't move. It leaves no mark or permanent damage and you can easily move it from car to car. I would definitely buy this when I bought a new Garmin GPS unit. This is the only mount I use! I bought this from buy.com and I had it within days!

There's not much to say or worry about with this mount. Just take it out of the box, attach your Garmin and sit it on your dashboard. No assembly. Just very easy to use. No stickiness to worry about. Well worth it.

No more suction cup marks to clean off. Works great on the dash. Stayed put going around rotary and around sharp corners. Also didn't slide off on acceleration.

Really helpful. Suction mounts are not reliable. Gps fells off with suction mount frequently. Easy to store in dashboard. No marks in windshield and hence no theft fear..

The only compliant is that it did not come with the unit. After using this, I will throw away the windshield mount piece of junk.

This mount works fine with my Garmin 200w GPS and the manufacturer is not losing any money selling it. I do not know why Garmin does not include this with the unit instead of the suction cup/ permanent mounts supplied now. I feel like I am being gouged a little for an item that should have come with the GPS.

I highly recommend the Portable Friction Mount. Ditch the Suction Cup Mount and make your life easier. No more suction cup rings in your windshield. It doesn't unexpectedly fall off. Thieves never know you have a Garmin GPS since you take the whole GPS mount and all off the dashboard. EASY! Get it! Buy.com was great as usual.

Works great on my '08 GMC Sierra and my wife's '05 Chevy Tahoe. Just put it on the dash and it stays in place. I found that the suction mount would loose grip on the windshield and let my Nuvi 350 fall. In either hot or cold weather, I'd find my Nuvi 350 of the windshield and on the floor. Our son suggested we get a Garmin friction mount like he uses for his 200W. Thanks to Buy.com I saved $10. I travel out of town each week. I ordered my Nuvi the first of the week and it was waiting for me by the time I got home the end of the week.

This is by far the best way to mount my Nüvi. It grips so well that I can't get it to slide on my dashboard even if I try. I first encountered this friction portable mount when utilizing a GPS in a rent car from Alamo. It works exceptionally well to place your Gamin GPS exactly where it can best been seen and it comes off the dashboard in a matter of seconds when you want to leave your GPS in the car. There have been published reports that even after removing your suction cup mount from the windshield that thieves utilize the telltell signs of the circular marks to target you for theft of your GPS. This devices works perfectly and keeps the GPS at the right level and does not shift - well maybe it would if you hit something at 30MPH. I haven't tried testing it to that extreme. ;->

I bought my Garmin during the cold Michigan winter, and I never could get the suction cup mount to stick to my windsheild. I did some research and found the friction mount, which works great. I don't think I can add much to the other reviews, just echo their praise for this product. It's well worth the price, and buy.com continues to amaze me with their super-fast shipping.

The portable friction mount works great in terms of a solution to the problem I was continually having with my Nuvi 350 falling off of my windshield. Buy.com was $10 less than "Best Buy's" current advertised price. I also got a "free" magazine subscription (not really free since the subscription would have cost me $10 anyways and I have seen the mount for sale online for as low as $20) that I have been wanting to renew as a "value added" when I checked out. My only complaint is that Garmin should really include this as a standard part of their package with every new GPS unit since the included suction cup is no match for a cold windshield.

I bought this friction mount to overcome the difficulties of using the suction cup mount in hot and cold weather. I was happy to find that this mount lowers the GPS far enough to greatly improve vision through the windshield. The mount stays perfectly still in turns and starts/stops. Plus, it's easy to move between cars.

I never liked the idea of a windscreen suction mount - they don't stay secure through temperature changes, they make it obvious that you have a GPS unit onboard, and they block part of your forward visibility. I also never wanted to put an adhesive disk permanently on my dash. This friction mount was the perfect answer not only to all of those concerns, but also to the ease of being able to take the GPS with me when I travel and wind up renting cars in strange cities. You can place the mount anywhere on the dash that lets you scan across it comfortably, and because it sits low on the dash, it doesn't block any of your forward view. You can easily adjust the unit in the mount to avoid glare on the screen. It remains securely in place over rough pavement and through sharp cornering. And when you park your vehicle, it lets you easily hide your GPS unit on the floor. My car's black interior really lets it hide well! I'm delighted with this purchase.

I chose to purchase the friction mount for my Garmin Nuvi 200 for a couple of reasons. I like having the ability to transfer the unit between vehicles with no problem. I also like not having something permanently affixed to my windshield or dashboard. I am a little shorter than average (5'2") and I don't honestly think I could have reached the GPS unit if it were mounted on the windshield of my SUV. The friction mount was the perfect solution for all of my concerns. The only problem I have had with the mount is that it has a rather large footprint. It isn't easy to find a relatively flat spot with enough space to accomodate the friction mount. I drive a Kia Sportage which isn't a small vehicle, so I am not sure how well this would work with less spacious cars. The price I got on buy.com wasn't the best around, but it was convenient to purchase the GPS unit with the accessories, so I didn't bother ordering it from another site. The shipping (free) took a while because it came from AZ to MI, so I had my Garmin a couple days before I received the friction mount.

I really like the Garmin Friction Mount. It is so much more easy to use then the windshield mount that came with the Garmin Nuvi. The only thing I would change is to include the square piece that the Nuvi actually ataches to.

The mount has worked well so far. I was surprised that the bottom of the mount creates as much friction as it does. I haven't hit a curve at a speed where the mount slides off the dash board yet. I waiting to see what happens with the surface property over time.

Bought this for a garmin nuvi 350 I got for xmas. Much better than mounting on the windshield as I can put this on the floor of the backseat when I leave the car so no one knows I have a unit. Works great and it's nice to be able to move your mount around.

If you have problems with your windshield mount or if you live in California (like I do), then you must have this product. It's simple and stays put on your dashboard. Plus this is the cheapest price around and buy.com is the best online store with the fastest shipping.
