Disc two recorded at various locations between 1984 and 1998. Includes liner notes by David Fricke. | | "Whiskey In The Jar" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. | | Anybody who's anybody in rock has been in a cover band. Although "cover" has a negative connotation, it is the playing of others' material that forges the identity and agenda of future superstars. Every recorded cover tune from Metallica plus 11 newly recorded covers are included in this double-CD set. They combine to give fans a glimpse into the wide variety of influences that have shaped metal's mightiest band. | | Disc one is the new material, and Metallica place their undeniable stamp on each track. Transforming Bob Seger's midtempo "Turn the Page" into a real rocker, and converting Nick Cave's "Loverman" into sheer brutality. Closer to the mark of Metallica's style, a Mercyful Fate medley retains the spirit of the original. James Hetfield's growls give an extra dose of attitude to Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey In The Jar," while an acoustic radio station jam of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone" is a southern delight. Disc 2 contains GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED, which had been out of print and heavily bootlegged. Rounding out the package are B-sides and one-offs including four Motorhead covers the band rehearsed for Lemmy's birthday party. | Musical Guests | | Jerry Cantrell | | Les Claypool | | Pepper Keenan | | Sean Kinney | | Jim Martin | | John Popper | | Gary Rossington |

Still, all things considered, GARAGE INC. is an intermittently exhilarating joyride." - Rating: B- Entertainment Weekly (12/18/98, p.84) - "...We'll have to wait until Metallica's next `proper' album to find out if this trip to the garage recharges their batteries. Still, all things considered, GARAGE INC. is an intermittently exhilarating joyride." - Rating: B- CMJ (12/21/98, p.29) - "...Those who still relate to the adolescent angst of the 'Metallicats' earliest days will find plenty to like on GARAGE INC..." Billboard 8 of 10 Only a band with the clout and the commitment to its craft that Metallica has can get away with releasing a double album of new and old cover recordings on a major label and pull it off flawlessly. Rolling Stone 7 of 10 ... metal heroes are supposed to be lords of the realm beyond good and evil, not librarian-minded record collectors. Metallica are the exception... Gloriously hard as the album is, you can't miss Metallica's good-natured side coming through. - Ben Ratliff Enetrtainment Weekly 7 of 10 ...Far more surprising than Metallica's well-documented taste in obscure punk and metal is their newfound embrace of classic rock... all things considered, "Garage Inc." is an intermittently exhilarating joyride. - Tim Sinclair

| | Bio | | Since they formed in 1981, San Francisco Bay Area band Metallica has gone from underground heavy metal band to one of the most successful acts in the world, with an intensely loyal fan base. Metallica albums have earned gold and/or platinum certifications in over 40 countries. In addition, a live box-set release (containing over 8 hours of live music and video, retailing at over $80), has sold over 600,000 units worldwide, making it the biggest selling box set of its kind in history. Metallica has garnered numerous awards and accolades throughout the world in their career, 4 Grammy Awards, 2 American Music Awards, 2 MTV Music Video Awards and 26 California Music Awards. When it comes to touring, there are few, if any, bands who deliver live the way Metallica does. Their shows, which began in clubs and garages in the early 80's, are now selling out in arenas and stadiums throughout the world, and continue to be the most intense, powerful and visually stimulating concert experience ever delivered. The most impressive achievement that bears mentioning is the fact that Metallica continues to be a strong attraction in the touring world; a truly rare feat in today's mercurial entertainment business, where fans often change allegiance to bands as often as they do hairstyles. Metallica is a band whose success can be directly attributed to a passion and no-compromise attitude in every project they undertake.
