5 of 5 An amazing system all around Monday, February 02, 2004
Jonathan Bordelon from denham springs Louisiana

This console far exceded my expectations. the graphics are about the same as xbox and far excedes that of ps2. this year many amazing games are going to come out so help support the true winner in the console wars gamecube.

5 of 5 Excellent system for the price Sunday, February 16, 2003
aspire2suck from Florida
The attractive selling points (in my opinion) of this console are: low(er) price, solid library of affordable games, and small footprint. If you're a hardware buff with a good TV/home theater setup I would go with the XBox since it is the superior of the 3 consoles in that aspect (best graphics/in-game Dolby Digital 5.1 support). If your main concern is having a lot of games to choose from including some excellent cheap titles I would go with the PS2. Also in my opinion PS2 has the best controller style and remote of the three. I chose the Gamecube primarily for the price and the new promotion with Metroid Prime. I also like its small unassuming size (compared to the XBox). The fact that it doesn't play DVDs/CDs doesn't bother me. The other consoles' DVD playback quality is underwhelming to me anyway. This system actually has some serious processing muscle to it (somewhere between the PS2 and the XBox) so don't let the 'kiddie' look impress upon you that it can't play graphics-intensive games smoothly (play Metroid Prime for a while to see what I mean). The games on average are also less expensive than the XBox and there is a decent library to choose from. It's not the most featured system, or has the most games, but it is the cheapest and in my opinion the most functional for the casual gamer.

5 of 5 great system! Friday, June 14, 2002
A Gamer from sav ga
the game cube beats all other systems for many reasons. first of all the x-box controler is made to inflict as mutch pain as posible. also the game are better. how cares if it cant play dvds. if that is all you want the ps2 or xbox for save some money and get a dvd player.the cubes only flaw is that the disks cant be cloned.

5 of 5 Uh..ok. I own all 3 systems, I would know. Saturday, May 25, 2002
ELMOBOND1 from Toledo, OH
This guy who rated it 2/5. Get real. I'll lay down the truth and quick. I own PS2, XBOX, and GC. I have the most games for GC, 2nd is PS2, 3rd is XBOX (game count). GC is made for multiplayer games. Straight - consider not getting this if you don't have friends or family to play with. Mario, Zelda and Metroid (along with a host of other single player games) are coming, but the major strength of GC is multiplayer. PS2 is made for single player and RPGs. Straight - consider this only if you enjoy RPGs and single players (which most people do). It is severely lacking in the multiplayer department. All it can offer is Sports game in MP, which to me, is hardly unique. XBOX is made for multiplayer and quirky single player games. Straight - microsoft is still proving itself, but with games like Ninja Gaiden coming it will be a strong contender. It's network will cost $50 a year to play on (multiplayer online), yet it will probably have the strongest online showing of consoles in this generation. If they had some RPGs (ie squaresoft), I could call them near equal to PS2. When it comes down to fun, all consoles can dish it out. Personally, I play multiplayer games as much as single player - so that's why GC is a riot. The only way you don't consider this console for $150 is if you don't ever not once play a multiplayer game.

4 of 5 Great Price, Great Quality Friday, May 24, 2002
A Gamer from N.Kingstown RI
If I wanted to go online, I have my computer. If I wanted to listen to music, I have my CD player, and if I wanted to watch dvd's I have my dvd player. If I wanted to play video game, I have my gameCube. That is why I like this system. It is strictly about the games. Sure if I wanted to do all of the above I could go get PS2 and XBox. And feeling as a pretty mature teen I have to say GameCube isnt kiddy. With new games such as 007 and Resident Evil, you can not terrorize this system by calling it sissy, or kiddy! Sure the design is a little weak but it is perfect to travel across your friends house or across the country. You can even get a portable tv by Intec (dont get Interact's) and play it in the car. I have to say on this system some of the "kiddy" games are addicting. If you really want a fun, multiplayer game get some sports games and definetly get Super Smash Bros. Melee. Even if you despise pokemon, mario, or any of those characters. This game is awsome!!! So sure if you want to watch dvd's, play cds, and surf the web get xbox or ps2. But if you are a real gamer who wants to play awesome games, get GAMECUBE!

4 of 5 Best system for younger audiences Thursday, May 23, 2002
Dad from Asheville, NC
I have to agree that the PS2 and XBox are better systems, but if you are buying for a younger child (under 12), then this is DEFINITELY the system you want. The reason? Yes, the other systems have more games, but the vast majority of them are marketed towards older teens. The majority of Gamecube games are marketed to the 12 and under audience. There's no way my 8 year old son could play most of the games on PS2 or XBox. Give him a Gamecube and he can rip! Not to mention that if your kid already has a Gameboy Advance, it can interface with the Gamecube. And if he likes Pokemon? Gamecube only.

5 of 5 Great System for Entire Family Wednesday, May 22, 2002
A Gamer from San Jose, CA
I happen to appreciate gameplay more than raw graphics power. So I actually do not like violence in games and I think it could be turned down or simply removed as long as the game itself is fun. Just so you know what sort of a gamer I am. <P> As far as graphics / computation power is concerned, here's how they rate. 1. Xbox. 2. GameCube. 3. PS2. But reliability-wise, I think it's: 1. GameCube. 2. PS2. 3. Xbox. Xbox is notoriously bad with crashing games. PS2 is harder to code for than GameCube. As for library of games. 1. PS2. 2. Xbox. 3. GameCube. I believe GC is slightly behind there but catching up soon. Game console ergonimics (comfort) and aesthetics: 1. GameCube, 2. PS2 and 3. Xbox. GameCube has really nice controllers. They just slip right into your hand. PS2's is a bit thin and Xbox is way too big and clunky. The GameCube is very compact and stashes away nicely. PS2 stands upright and is much bigger than a GameCube. Xbox is way too big. If you are all for gratuitous graphics, buy the Xbox. If you want a big library of games, get the PS2. But if you want a bunch of good quality fun games that you could share with your family, get the GameCube. There's a lot of fun games out for GC right now and a lot more in the works. You've got Pikmin, Sonic, and soon new Mario Adventure, Zelda, Starfox ... and even Square who makes the very famous Final Fantasy series for PS and PS2 has agreed to write games again for Nintendo. So lots of high-quality, fun games in the pipeline. I think Nintendo has it right this time with the GameCube. Xbox is one of those Microsoft products that you'll have to wait a couple of revisions before they get it right. When was the last time they hit the nail on the head the first time? Have they ever? PS2 has the inertia because of the headstart but the difficulty in coding for it is going to hurt it in the long run as new game developers opt for coding for the GameCube or the Xbox which are much easier to develop for.

5 of 5 Gamecube Wednesday, May 22, 2002
A Gamer from WI
To me the Gamecube is a graet machine with many assesories that make it even better and for 150 it is worth it but about the online play Nintedo is working on that and is planing to come out with a broadband or 56k adaptor both so the customer has choice so in time it will be up there with xbox and PS2.

4 of 5 Gamecube continues Nintendo's success Tuesday, May 21, 2002
mrgreent2 from Center Valley, PA
Currently (April 2002), Gamecube has the second highest sales for game systems. While it and XBox significantly trail PS2, Gamecube is ahead of XBox. However, it will be interesting to see how all three of them fair now that their prices have dropped significantly (week of May 19 2002). Gamecube utilizes an IBM developed 450mhz (approx.) processor and an onboard ATI graphics chip. Gamecube games are on miniature DVD's, they are about half the size of regualr ones. Although many of the games are designed for all ages, some people think the only good games are games which contain the greatest ratio of violence to gameplay. HOwever, don't forget that Nintendo's main success is its Characters, namely Mario, Luigi, Link, Donky Kong and Kirby all of which are characters for all ages. Even Metroid and Megaman are realatively harmless for children. Nintendo has been criticized for the lack of Mature themed games in the past; however, they have recently acquired the Resident Evil franchise that was, but is no longer, exclusively licensed to Sony (Playstation games). Nintendo also has Perfect Dark and a new Bond game (uncharacteristically violent franchies for Nintendo). The N64 was financially very very successful for Nintendo and thus, led them to develop the Gamecube. It is not well known, but even though the Gamecube has comparable graphics to other 128 bit systems, it is still only a "64 bit" system. However, it is "64 true bits" and uses one SINGLE 64 bit chip. The N64, unlike the Gamecube, utilizes TWO SEPARATE 32 bit chips, that when added up equals 64 bits. Because it is not "64 true bit," the graphics N64 are no match for those of the Gamecube. It also may interest you to know that most computers are only 64 bit, but like the gamecube, they are also "true bit" systems, which is why they look so good. THe gamecube is also cheaper than the other two systems out. Buy.com sells Gamecube for $150. PS2 and XBox both droped to $200 each this week. The gamecube's (and Nintendo's for that matter) success has been rooted in the universality of their games. Nintendo has always held a strong foothold in the video game industry. Their game systems don't need perks, gimicks, incentives or even *DVD* players for people to buy them. They sell of their own dedication to be a "true" video game system for both serious and novice gamers alike. They will continue to survive as a formidable player that any serious gamemaker will have to acknowledge if they wish to be successful in the ever expanding market of video games.

5 of 5 FUN SYSTEM! Tuesday, May 21, 2002
The Master Gameplayer from Milton, MA
GameCube is a fun system at a very affordable price. I upgraded from my PlayStation 1. If you want a system entirely build for games, this is the system for you.

5 of 5 Fine Machine with incredible lighting effect Monday, May 13, 2002
A Gamer from Ann Arbor, MI
If you have ever played resident evil remake for gamecube, you would recognize the incredible special effects that are provided by gamecube machine. Gamecube doesn't have online network features, but still worth enough to buy. Someone mentioned that gamecube is not worth to buy compared to xbox. But I personally think, xbox is the worst game machine among all those new generation game consoles, regardless of its hardware spec, xbox would have few mega-hit games.

2 of 5 Decent, but you can do much better Monday, April 29, 2002
A Gamer from Texas
Though this system is not worthless, I suggest you invest in a system with more games and potential. Xbox and PS2 are far better systems. These systems are far superior in technology and games. The GameCube has no online plan, is cheaply built, and has no support by publishers or big companies. The result is a system doomed to fail in the long run, much as the N64 did. GameCube also has an incredibly poor game library, with no current hits and none coming up. This system is also geared towards young childern, with the only exclusives being 1st party and designed for childern. BUY AN XBOX OR PS2 INSTEAD. I say all of this as a GameCube owner (I plan to trade the system in for Xbox games soon)
