Editor's Note

After a decade spent with one of television's most important and consistently hilarious families, THE SIMPSONS, cartoonist Matt Groening branched out with this animated science-fiction comedy series. Set in the year 3000 or Y3K, FUTURAMA follows the delivery routes of Phillip Fry, a pizza boy who has awakened 1000 years into the future. He joins the crew of Planet Express Corporation which includes a beautiful cyclops named Leela, a substance-abusing robot named Bender B. Rodriguez, and the brilliant yet bumbling Dr. Farnsworth. This collection contains 13 episodes from the series.

DVD Movie Guide 8 of 10
While other programs like Beavis and Butt-Head, Ren and Stimpy and King of the Hill rode the wave of TV animation popularity created by The Simpsons in the early Nineties, the folks behind that series took a while to try something different. But attempt something new they did. Back in 1999, we got a new series unrelated to The Simpsons. Futurama bears a lot of similarities with its older counterpart. The art retains the look of Matt Groening's drawings, and the comedic tone and style seem close between the two shows. However, Futurama was never just a Simpsons wannabe, as it created its own identity. Pound for pound, Futurama's provided better material over its run. The Simpsons remains the superior series overall, but during the four years in which they've gone head to head, Futurama boasts somewhat stronger work. - Colin Jacobson

5 of 5 Same great humor as The Simpsons...but in the Futu Friday, May 25, 2007
mwallin88 from Camarillo, CA

It's Futurama. If you've ever seen the show then you already know just how funny/great it is. If you haven't but you've seen The Simpsons (and who hasn't seen The Simpsons?) then you will definitely love Futurama because it comes from the same creator (Matt Groening)...'nuff said.

4 of 5 Never should have been canceled! Thursday, January 27, 2005
M. Salsbury from Hilliard, OH
If you never watched Futurama when it aired on Fox, you missed out. Fortunately, you can now pick it up on DVD! This first season introduces the main characters and pokes fun at a lot of different things: the new millennium, television, science fiction, the 20th century, and everyday life in America. Although some of the later seasons are a bit funnier, you need to watch this one to enjoy all the joking and character rivalry you see later on. The voice acting is superb, the humor often over the top, and the animation skillfully mixes 2D and 3D elements. By and large, it's one of the most enjoyable television experiences I've ever had.

4 of 5 Great set for fans! Friday, August 22, 2003
Derek from Bremen, Indiana
Futurama broke new ground with its animation style, using 3-D intercut with hand-drawn animation to create a rich visual world. That world isn't populated with as big a cast of characters as the Simpsons (also created by Matt Groening), but it has the same high quality and irreverent humor. The DVD set is very similar to the Simpsons, also: quality transfers, group commentaries, a few deleted scenes, but not much else. The commentaries do a good job of cluing you in to some of the secrets and side jokes. All in all, a very worthy addition to any geek's collection.
