Tod (voiced by Keith Mitchell as a young Tod and Mickey Rooney as the adult Tod) is rescued by Big Mama (Pearl Bailey), a big-hearted owl. One day in the forest, Tod meets his closest neighbor, Copper (voiced by Corey Feldman as the young Copper and Kurt Russell as the adult Copper), a kindly hunting dog who works for Amos Slade (Jack Albertson), an old-fashioned hunter. Tod and Copper become friends, until the time comes when Copper must do his duty as a hunting dog, and hunt Slade's quarry--Tod the fox.
