| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra): Dave Brogan, Steve Adams , Dan Lebowitz, Zach Gill. | | Additional personnel: Jack Johnson. | | Although FLY BETWEEN FALLS is only the second official full-length release from California's ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), the band has been performing for over 15 years. The chemistry and stylistic confidence borne of playing together for such a long time is evident on the album's assured songwriting and easygoing, front-porch grooves, which owe a major debt to both the folk-influenced aspects of the Grateful Dead and that band's contemporary equivalent in the jam bands of the 2000s. | | That FLY BETWEEN FALLS was issued on Jack Johnson's Brushfire label doesn't come as a surprise. ALO's mellow, acoustic-rooted folk and funky backbeat bears a resemblance to Johnson's own music (Johnson even guests on "Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down"). The whole album has the good-natured, ambling vibe of California neo-hippie rock, which makes it perfect for a sun-baked, lazy afternoon. | | Although FLY BETWEEN FALLS is only the second official full-length release from California's ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), the band has been performing for over 15 years. Together, their identity is unique and calls to mind everything from Phish and the Grateful Dead to the String Cheese Incident. The music is laid-back, sophisticated, stoned, and utterly Californian. It's no wonder that this band (where all members sing) is a huge hit on the jam band circuit. Check "Wasting Time (Isla Vista Song)," where they refer to Jerry and crew, pot, malt liquor, and happy-go-lucky carefree living. The select tunes on this set are the single "Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down" (with Jack Johnson guesting on vocals), "Walls of Jericho," and "The Fly." This is terminal sunshine music for those whose only ambitions for the summertime are hanging out in the zone with their favorite substance. ~ Thom Jurek | Producer: ALO | Musical Guests | | Jack Johnson |
