| | | Eat. Sleep. Folk. Features: DVD, Widescreen, English, Spanish, French, Subtitled Meet Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie -- a.k.a. Flight of the Conchords. They may be "New Zealand's 4th Most Popular Folk Parody Duo," but now they're in a strange new world -- New York City -- and determined to conquer America once fan at a time...literally! This 2-disc set feature all 12 episodes of the acclaimed HBO series. Watch as our heroes contend with unrequited love, bohemian parties, inept criminals and their (single) obsessed fan, breaking into song as they clumsily attempt to break into the New York scene. "All the makings of a cult smash; a clever, quirky, and charming watch..." MultiChannel News "So unlike anything else I have ever seen before..." New York Post "The funniest thing you've seen in ages...brilliant..." San Francisco Chronicle "...spins comic gold out of the sparest components." Nathan Rabin, The Onion A.V. Club "The performances are near-perfect. Everything appears effortless. The comedic timing of McKenzie and Clement is spot on." Roy Hrab, DVD Verdict
 Editor's Note
Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, better known as FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS, have moved from New Zealand to Brooklyn, New York, in an attempt to make it big in the United States. Unfortunately their mix of "digi-bongo-rap-comedy-folk" doesn't sit well with an American audience, and their hilariously incompetent band manager, Murray, is not helping the situation. THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON contains 12 episodes including "Bret Gives up the Dream," "What Goes on Tour," "New Fans," "The Actor," and "The Third Conchords."

| | Professional Reviews | Uncut 4 stars out of 5 -- "[With whip-smart musical numbers....The duo's deadpan demeanour in the face of spectacular lack of success wins through." 01/01/2008 p.131Variety 7 of 10 At first, this New Zealand-imported tandem seems like any of the cut-rate slacker comedies that overpopulate Comedy Central -- until they burst into song and madcap lunacy ensues. Hardly a great show, those eclectic musical numbers nevertheless yield some extremely clever moments, and if nothing else, there aren't many places you can hear a love song with lyrics like, "You're so beautiful ... Like a high-class prostitute ... You could be a part-time model"...Still, like a review that once referred to "Jaws" as "a thriller at sea and a bore ashore," "Flight" is pretty much a snooze until the music starts, at which point the show kicks up into something quite weird and occasionally wonderful...Even then, this is a slight diversion, aimed toward that younger quadrant of potential subscribers that HBO chased after by signing a multifaceted deal with Dane Cook, the inexplicably popular comic who plays arenas with his club-sized act...Sure, the show isn't much to look at, but thanks to those musicvideos, there are moments when it sounds like a gem. - Brian Lowry
