 Editor's Note
FIGHT CLUB is narrated by a lonely, unfulfilled young man (Edward Norton) who finds his only comfort in feigning terminal illness and attending disease support groups. Hopping from group to group, he encounters another pretender, or "tourist," the morose Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), who immediately gets under his skin. However, while returning from a business trip, he meets a more intriguing character--the subversive Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). They become fast friends, bonding over a mutual disgust for corporate consumer-culture hypocrisy. Eventually, the two start Fight Club, which convenes in a bar basement where angry men get to vent their frustrations in brutal, bare-knuckle bouts. Fight Club soon becomes the men's only real priority; when the club starts a cross-country expansion, things start getting really crazy. Like Tyler Durden himself, director David Fincher's FIGHT CLUB, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, is startlingly aggressive and gleefully mischievous as it skewers the superficiality of American pop culture. Outstanding performances by Norton and Pitt are supported by a razor-sharp script and an arsenal of stunning visual effects that include computer animation and sleight-of-hand editing. One of the most unique films of the late 20th century, FIGHT CLUB is a pitch-black comedy of striking intensity.
 Plot Summary
David Fincher's adrenaline-fueled adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel is a satirical, absurdist romp highlighted by the director's edgy visual flair.

Wow...thats about the only way to describe this movie. Even if you dont like the movie (for reasons I can't begin to believe), you have to give David Fincher a lot of credit for an absolutely fantastic job directing this flick. Fight Club is an in-your-face attack on modern commercialism and materialism. With a mind-blowing story line and an all-star cast, there is no reason any movie lover does not have this already. Those who dismissed this movie in poor reviews just didnt catch the point of Fight Club. Its not about violence, its about society. Watch it, love it. Was this review helpful?

David Fincher's Fight Club brought a new meaning to controversy and the ideas of financial destruction. Due to the past terrorists attacks, this film will not be able to be released, thats what I love about it. It shows a man going through a period of his life where he can: keep working in a dead end job or take a risk, and change everything. The film comes w/ amazing features, great digital transfer, great sound, nothing to complain. I bought this DVD in 2000 and Im not yet done looking through it. A must have for every person w/ a DVD Player. Period Was this review helpful?

This is a great one for the collection. Great packaging and extra features on the disc. This movie is definitely a unique and interesting film that brings a dark and cynical side of life to the screen that most mainstream films never deal with. 100% guy flick. Was this review helpful?

Great movie, and with the plot twist at the end worth watching multiple time just to pick up on all the subtle hints they drop. Fun to try and wrap your brain around. Was this review helpful?

This was the best movie no one ever saw. I can't believe this went by so quietly!! With a plot twist 10 times as striking as The Sixth Sense, 'The Fight Club' deserves a spot on everyone's movie shelf. This is definitely not just another 'guy movie'... La Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 A great movie and an even greater book Wednesday, March 15, 2000 A Viewer from New York, NY
I had read the book by Chuck Palahniuk first and to be honest, it is the greatest book I have ever read. I was a little nervous that the movie would ruin the book by not living up to its greatness, but I my fears were soothed within the first ten minutes. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Best Movie I've Ever Seen Monday, March 13, 2000 A Viewer from Villanova, PA
Fight Club is not just a movie about fighting: it is, however, an intense delve into the male psyche and the concept of total self-anihilation in order to avoid being 'owned' by today's overwhelming society. I want you to hit me as hard as you can. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 One of the best movies of the Decade Wednesday, February 16, 2000 WReQluese from Denver, Colorado
Amazing, I walked out of this movie completely full of energy and loving every second of it....Intricate coming into independence of spirit movie that couldn't have come at a better time for people...panned by critics as too extreme means its just that much better, it's just too bad more people didn't get up and see it...if you like movies that actually mean something and drag the audience along kicking and screaming (if necessary) to the finale that makes everything work...well, you'll love this movie... 5 of 5 MOVIE OF THE YEAR! Wednesday, February 09, 2000 craig_flick from Phoenix, AZ
BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT! More and more respect goes to Brad Pitt for his choices of roles when it comes to movies. This pretty boy has an awesome dark side to him...seven...12 monkeys..ect. And Fight Club takes the cake. An awesome movie (followed up by a killer soundtrack) which gives my vote for movie of the year...(and I've seen a lot of damn movies this year.) What makes this movie so great? EVERYTHING! From plot twists to cinimatogrophy, David Finch pulls another rabbit. You just can lose with this one. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Subversion and the Permanent Revolutionary Friday, February 04, 2000 stEn from Seattle WA
American cinema hasn't seen an anti-hero like Tyler Durden since Joseph Wiseman's character in Viva Zapata. Brad Pitt's flamboyantly unconventional character has the ability to suck the viewer in as a co-conspirator in his outlandish, antisocial behavior; and he sucks in Edward Norton's character (Narrator) with incredible ease. Norton's insomnia drives him to support groups that he doesn't technically need (brain parasites, testicular cancer, etc.). Eventually, he befriends Durden under unusual circumstances, and they begin beating on each other as a kind of cathartic way to find out what their limits are. The men in the bar where they start this mayhem get interested (which becomes the Fight Club of the title), and things get very, very weird.
This film defies expectations and categorizations. It's a scathing indictment of our consumerist, pre-packaged culture. (and yet, here I am, wanting to buy the DVD) It simultaneously exalts and skewers masculinity as a culture, celebrating both thought and action in life.
One walks out wishing one could do life as an art project. Was this review helpful?

Simply put...the greatest movie ever made. If you would like to be mesmerized I suggest that you see this movie. Not only is it superbly acted by Brad Pitt and Ed Norton, Jr., but it is one of a kind. Movies like this do not come around too often. If you thought Usual Suspects was a great movie then you will enjoy this movie. A rollercoaster ride from the moment it begins until the closing credits. This is a must see movie that will become a classic in time. First rule of Fight Club...YOU HAVE TO SEE FIGHT CLUB!!! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Best Film of 1999 Wednesday, December 22, 1999 Ressaid from New York, NY
For all of you out there who enjoy originality in their film, 'Fight Club' is clearly the way to go. The story revolves around the unlikely friendship of two dissolousioned young men who start a rather 'physical' men's club in order to release the stress of modern day living. The story is amusing and entertaining and anyone with a love of good dialogue will find no shortage here. Fight Club is a film about anarchy, consumerism, and male bonding and pokes as much fun at itself as it does the modern world. Check it out, you won't be dissapointed. Was this review helpful?
