It's tough for sports game developers to outshine previous efforts substantially enough to emerge as something special. NHL 09 was able to do it, NBA Live 10 was able to do it, and now the folks at EA Canada have miraculously created a FIFA title that is markedly better than the impressive previous effort...When it comes to sports games people are always crying out for some genre-defining feature addition or a graphical upgrade that blows the doors off of anything that you've seen before. FIFA 10 is devoid of those giant leaps forward, yet still manages to impress in every one of the traditional aspects of the sport...Graphically FIFA 10 has made small adjustments to what we've seen in the past. Detail on the field holds up to the level that you expect from the series with the greatest improvement being the almost total removal of the stuttering that used to plague instant replays. The framerate also holds up well during Be A Pro gameplay, something that was a problem last year. I noticed a few physical inaccuracies, but they were very few and don't dampen the experience much...Aside from the usually spot-on commentary, you'll want to crank up your speakers to hear the pumping stadium environments. Spend five minutes in a game and you'll be able to tell who the home team is and who is away. They aren't quite as boisterous as real crowds, but they're close...FIFA 10 is the definitive soccer experience if there ever was one. It packages a list of modes that perform in wonderful harmony with one another thanks to Virtual Pro and the fact that the gameplay lives up to this praise should only sweeten the deal. Taking the game online is as awesome as it was last year and with Live Season 2.0 kicking off once the US version ships on October 20, soccer diehards are going to have even more to sink their teeth into. If you were a past soccer fan and are looking to get back into the swing of things or if you've been eagerly awaiting FIFA 10's release, you absolutely, positively will not be disappointed. - Nate Ahearn

Soccer is, without a doubt, the most popular sport in the world. While it hasn't gained much traction in the US, the sport inspires a sense of devotion and fervor that borders on the religious in other parts of the globe. So it's no surprise that FIFA 10 is breaking sales records in other countries. But the game is so good that it just might change a few minds here in the States as well. Read on to see why FIFA 10 deserves a place in your lineup; you just might walk away a convert...There's a senseless yet subconscious question we ask ourselves when we experience a video game that's incredibly realistic and enjoyable; we can't help but think, "How can this get any better?" I first asked myself this after experiencing the perfection of MLB 09: The Show, and now I'm asking myself the same question after experiencing FIFA Soccer 10...And even though I don't need the vindication, it's nice to know that the world seems to agree with me. Within its first week of release, FIFA Soccer 10 sold 1.7 million copies in Europe, making it the fastest-selling sports game and EA's biggest European launch. That right there should give you a basic illustration of this iteration's excellence...Needless to say, FIFA 10 is superb. The more I type of this review, the more I wish I was playing it right now. I feel pretty confident in saying that it is the most enjoyable sports game I've ever played. It has the depth that diehard and sim fans require while also offering up the option for a simplistic experience that casual fans can enjoy, and with a ton of new goodies, FIFA Soccer 10 is surefire winner all around.
