Director Jewison has masterfully recreated the pre-Revolutionary Russian setting, and the camera catches every detail with seeming ease. This is a key to the film's ability to avoid the claustrophobic feel of many movie versions of stage musicals. - Dan Jardine VideoHound's Golden Movie Retriever 8 of 10 Topol, an Israeli who played the role in London, is charming... Finely detailed set decoration and choreography, strong performances from the entire cast create a sense of intimacy in spite of near epic proportions of the production.
