 Editor's Note
A family-oriented series created by Michael Landon (HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN), FATHER MURPHY is centered around a home for orphans that was founded by "Father" John Murphy (Merlin Olsen) and pretty schoolteacher Mae Woodward (Katherine Cannon). A loner who drifted into Gold Hill, an Old West mining town, John put down roots after immoral bosses caused an explosion that left many children homeless. He began the orphanage by posing as a priest, but that ruse was later exposed. John and Mae fell in love and married, and they now run the home with the help of African-American prospector Moses Gage (Moses Gunn). In the heartwarming second season, the newlyweds go away on a honeymoon, only to meet and adopt a streetwise young orphan, Eli. The gang also get to meet Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) engage in a train chase to stop a kidnapping, order a bride for Moses, and welcome a new member to the family when Mae announces that she's pregnant. Episodes include: "The Father Figure," "Outrageous Fortune," "Buttons and Beaux," "Sweet Sixteen," and "The Rockets' Red Glare," among others.
