5 of 5 good god, watch out Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Leathercladcow from Crp Christi, TX
This product has been discontinued because it is one of the most idiotically designed piece of (titanium) in the history of idiotic garbage accessories foisted on the unsuspecting general public. SHAME ON ALL THESE COMPUTER REVIEWERS FOR NOT WARNING ME WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF IT TIPPED OVER. I got one--at the UT Austin computer store, may their bones be ground to dust. My 11 lb dog ran by, knocked it over--and it ground to a halt. The BACKUP SELF-DESTRUCTED. These high resolution drives disintegrate faster than any drive heretofore known to man. I researched the people with the skills to try to recover any data--and it will cost me from $300 to $3000 for a CHANCE of any recovery. So ask yourself--is this what you really desire in a backup drive system you crave to protect valuable data? "My God, how did I get here?" Is this my beautiful data? If you have one, run it in a bolted-down shark cage. Was this review helpful?

the drive went belly up less then 6 months after I got it. I had to take the drive out of the enclosure to recover the data...which voided my warranty. I could not get them to replace the drive because I opened the case. Even funnier was that the drive was a re-manufactured drive, not new, and was riddled with bad sectors. I guess you get what you pay for. I went out and got a Seagate external drive. Very happy with it...It cost more, but they have good service. Was this review helpful?

Formatting it was not that easy but the support at Fantom is great and they helped me to do it. It now works fine. Was this review helpful?

This hard drive rocks! I plugged it in, my computer recognized it and I was transferring files within minutes. Excellent speed, very quiet, small footprint, and with the rebate it's a great value! I would definitely recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fast & Reliable Saturday, November 04, 2006 Brian from Houston, TX
The fantom drive performs competitively with other manufacturers'external USB2.0 drives. Speed is acceptable with USB1.1 connections. Surface testing found no formatting errors or bad sectors.
I am pleased with this purchase and would buy fantom drives again. Was this review helpful?

Just received yesterday and have zero problems with this product. Moved over 30 GB of music from my desktop hard drive and was fast and simple. Just plug in and go, it doesn't get much easier than that. Connecting to my laptop is a breeze and it is very convenient. I would recommend this product to anyone. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Simple. Easy. Cheap. Thursday, November 02, 2006 Bradcfi from Kansas City, MO
This external hard drive is truly plug and play. I plugged in the power cord and the USB cord and the computer recognized it. I then set up my "Windows Live One Care" to use this external drive as a back up hard drive and I was done. Now back ups are automatic and I am happy. Was this review helpful?

This product is wonderful. My friends kept trying to convince to purchase a larger External HD...but I didn't need one larger than 100GB. Very easy to get up and running...just plug it in and go! Best value out there for $50! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Fantom 120 is a great value!! Wednesday, November 01, 2006 Michael Silverman from Elkins Park, PA
I love this 120 GB external drive. It is now my most valuable tool between my office and my home. The best thing about it is you just connect it and IT WORKS! Also it is faster than my internal hard drive. In addition a rebate makes this deal unbeatable. I have bought many items from BUY.COM, and I have been happy with your service and the items too. I am very satisfied with my Fantom External Hard Drive. It was easy to set up and install and use. It is small and doesn't take up too much space; I have set it up vertically. It was recognized instantly by my XP Home operating system. I formatted it to be used as the NTFS system and that was a snap. I feel lucky to have purchased this from Buy.com and the price was reasonable too. Buy.com always seems to have the stuff I want at the price I want to pay. I would recomment the Fantom to anyone. Wanted an outboard hard drive to back up files from 3 computers. Saw this unit at an unbelievable price and went for it. Was hooked up and operating within minutes of receiving. Only thing I would have liked different is not having to connect to AC. Saw other units that drew power from USB port. But they were more expensive and slower. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Good price, but the drive is loud Friday, October 27, 2006 Brian from Albany, NY
I got the drive as some extra storage and backup for my laptop. I can't leave the drive on my desk top. It kind of sounds like a harrier. Personally, I put the drive behind my desk, and the sound doesn't bother me. It's real easy to use. Plug it in and use it. Or reformat it to a better file system (It comes with FAT32 formatted). You also need to have the drive plugged into a wall outlet, it's not the type to use the USB bus power.

Overall I am happy with the drive. It was cheap, fast, and easy to use..just a tad too loud for the desktop. Was this review helpful?

This HD really impressed me with it's ease of setup and performance. great external HD for storing music and files. I did notice that one of my XP PC's doesn't see the drive after a while if I have it connected thru one of my USB ports via a KVM Switch, however once I removed it off there and went directly to the PC USB port it was ok. Nice unit, works right out of the box, can reformat if you want. Was formatted with fat 32, went ahead and did a NTSF format. Works nicely.

Cannot complain. It has only been a week since I had the drive but it was a perfectly simple plug-and-play device. Windows recognized it immediately. Backng up my data was quick (though it could have been faster but again, cannot complain).

This Fantom External drive was an excellet purchase. It was very easy to install, works well and is easy to use. A power switch keeps the drive off line when not in use. It is a very good design at a super price. Was this review helpful?

I've had this drive for about 2 weeks and it works great. Just plug and play. It's very portable between office and home. It's got decent reaed/write speed. I bought it because I previously purchased the Fantom Titanium 160Gb and was pleased with its performance. Was this review helpful?

This is a small, almost noiseless little hard drive. I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by how easily it is plug-n-play with Windows XP and Mac OS which I have installed on my Macbook (dual-boot). It runs quite nicely, and is quite light. It has great plug-and-play with my Windows 2000 machine and is a great storage device to back up music, movies, pictures especially for quick transport...definitely give it a try. This extra storage drive came at a great price. A snap to set up, works thru USB 2 hub well and is quiet and cool when running. The transfer rate for photos is fast and serves well for data back up also. Would recomment it.
There is software if you are running 98SE or Milleninum also. Was this review helpful?
