I can honestly say this drive works great. With usb 2.0 it processes as fast as an internal drive, and I have not had one ruined disc from the data I have burned. I would recommend this drive to anyone who is looking for a external dvd burner. Was this review helpful?

This is, overall, a great burner. It's fairly quiet and fast, although it's basically a kit with a FD box and third party drive installed. The only hardware problem I've noticed is that sometimes the disc rattles in the drive if you don't center it carefully on insertion - never had a burner before that had so "loose" a tray depression.
But the DVDs are very poor quality. I've used one of the two 50-disc cakeboxes, and 18 failed to either burn or pass verification - that's more than one in three failures. Using premium Memorex discs I have no failures in 14 tries. When I submitted the problem to Buy.com customer service, I was told by "Rubal" that Buy.com "is not able to honor" my request for satisfaction, as I didn't complain within 14 days.
Buyer beware on this one - it's a fine drive, but the blanks aren't worth the trouble. Was this review helpful?
