5 of 5 Recommeded backup device. Saturday, October 25, 2008
Neioneil from Marietta GA.

First I must give credit to the resource for this and a plethora of simular devices; BUY.COM, thank you. At first glance I didn't think much of the name but thus far no issues and very easy configuration on both of my machines; Linux and Vista. Confidence restored once I had to use the Fantom to recover some vital data. In a word: sweet!

5 of 5 Pretty cheap for a 1TB drive... Saturday, October 04, 2008

I may just have to buy another.. No problems so far, lots of storage in a small footprint. Great shipping, only took 4 days to get to my location.

5 of 5 Outstanding Item! Saturday, September 20, 2008
Holly Sells from Red Bank, TN
I'd purchase more of these for friends. I cannot recommend this external hard drive enough. As another reviewer stated, the case is built like a tank. I took it to my brother's house to transfer several files, and he was more than impressed with the device. I'm not a computer guru, but he works with them for a living. His vote of confidence only reaffirmed my positive experience with the product. This item more than exceeded my expectations. Item arrived packaged perfectly and in mint condition.

5 of 5 Excellent Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Juno from PA
I've had this drive for over six months now without any problems, and will buy a second when this one is full. What more could you ask for? Huge capacity, minimal price, easy use, and style. Overall, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made, but Jesus H Christ, the power light is so bright that I can flag aircraft with it. My room now has two lighting levels; well-lit and blue, sci-fi glow. The first night I fell asleep with this thing on, it gave me a nightmare in which I was trapped under the cover of a swimming pool, drowning. But whatever, nothing that a little electrical tape can't fix. Highly recommended for people who like downloading the whole internet.

5 of 5 Well worth the money! Thursday, September 11, 2008
A Customer from Austin, TX
This is the third Fantom drive I have purchased. I mainly chose the first one (USB) because it was the best price. The second was a firewire, but I do not see much difference in transfer speed from the USB. I use this one as the external hard drive for TimeMachine on a MacBook with Leopard installed. This last purchase was for a USB 1T, also used as external hard drive for TimeMachine on an iMac running Leopard. These are truly plug and play, and for nearly two years I've found them to be totally reliable. I also like their compact size, even at 500G and 1T! After using Maxtor and LaCie, Fantom will be my drive of choice in the future.

5 of 5 Excellent buy! Monday, September 01, 2008
Chris from Gainesville, FL
Pros: Fast, easy to use (plug-n-play). I have Windows Vista and it works fine. Lots of storage for a low price ($159.99 w/ rebate). With 1 TB, I have plenty of room for movies, pics, etc. My two laptops combined only equal 1/2 of the space, so using it as a back-up hard drive will not be a problem. Cons: Have to format it yourself to work with Windows O.S. Windows uses NTFS. Even with a 2.0 USB it took almost 12 hours to format. This model doesn't come with FireWire (much faster than USB ports), but that would have cost a little more. Note: This type of hard drive is for large quantities of storage, if you use it occasionally to back-up other hard drives and store movies (even play them from it), you'll be fine. This is not for people that constantly transfer large amounts of data back and forth. It doesn't have an internal cooling system (like your computer does) and can overheat if excessively used. If you need to constantly use your external hard drive, then get one with fan. Try the Fantom 1TB G-Force Hard Drive. Reviews say it's fast, but also noisy because of the fan (sounds just like what happens to a computer being over worked). Overall: It’s reliable and keeps my back-ups safe.

5 of 5 Perfect! Monday, August 18, 2008
nowimnothing from Texas
This is exactly what I had in mind. I read a lot of the reviews and was a bit skeptical at first but when i recieved it...all I have to say is VERY please. The prie was awesome, it is one of the most quietest externals I have owned. Very small and portable, and the 1T is wonderful. I really don't understand how anyone else could say it is loud, and as far as the gig space...please keep in mind that it is always rounded off. No matter what brand you buy and how much space is on it, it will be rounded off. I will buy another FD 1T. Thanks buy.com

5 of 5 Fantom Tera Byte Drives Solve Storage Problems Monday, August 18, 2008
wwgorman from Seal Harbor, Maine
Due to a main hard drive computer crash I also had a number of smaller external backup drives develop scrambled File Allocation Tables making the data difficult to recover. I bought two Fantom Tera Bytes external drives and they were simple and easy to install. They come formatted as FAT32 drives but I re-formatted them with the NTFS style format which was done very easily after the drive s were connected. They work in both Windows XP SP2 and Vista 32 bit SP1. These were about the easiest pieces of equipment to install that I have purchased in the last few years. And, they work great

5 of 5 Hey, people, do the math! Friday, August 15, 2008
riredale from Portland, Oregon
Hard drive vendors advertise capacity in terms of millions and billions of bytes, the same units of measure everyone else in the world uses. Computer people use "binary" units of measure. KB=1,024 bytes; MB=1,049,000; GB=1,074,000,000; TB=1,100,000,000,000. So in their (distorted) world, a drive holding a trillion bytes holds 931GB. So don't blame the hard drive vendors. They are using the decimal units of measure. By the way, a good product. The case is built like a tank.

1 of 5 Had to send it back Sunday, August 03, 2008
Nigel Fairbank from Spring Hill, Florida
I like Fantom drives! I have be using a 500GB model and based upon its performance, decided to purchase the 1TB model. Like its 500GB conterpart, it just plugs in and is ready to go. I backup approximately 220GB of data, at least once per day. Unfortunately, this model appears not to be able to handle large files and constant use. It runs well for a few minutes and then starts throwing delayed write errors. I think that I would purchase another unit after waiting until they resolve the issues with this version. I should have guessed based upon the large quantity of refurbished ones on sale at Buy.com. A quick note on my return experience, Buy.com did a great job, the RMA process was painless. Way-to-go Buy.com

1 of 5 Only 930 GB, not 1000 GB Monday, July 28, 2008
A Customer from Alexandria, VA
The box, as well as buy.com, advertises it as a 1 TB (1000-1024 GB) hard drive. Even after formatting the drive, I only was able to use 930 GB of space. 930 GB is a lot, don't get me wrong, just not what I paid for. 70 GB is a lot to be missing.

1 of 5 Crap Drive! Buy at your own RISK Monday, July 28, 2008
Xander Cross from Baltimore
I bought a drive from Fantom. It failed just after a year. They refused to replace the drive. I lost some beautiful Photographs and some irreplaceable video footage of my family. Bad customer service! They have "TOO BAD DUDE" attitude that sucks. Buy at your own risk.

5 of 5 Great value, price and performance Sunday, July 06, 2008
A Customer from Greensboro NC
This is the second Fantom external drive I've purchased the first was a 500MB external a year ago. The drives are reliable, fast and easy to use. I have had no problems with either drive. The 1TB Fantom USB external drive I plugged into my PC and started using immediately.

5 of 5 Very happy with this drive. Monday, March 24, 2008
A Customer from Newcastle, CA
I already have several Fantom drives (along with other external USB drives) - this is my first 1Tb drive, and it's working just as well as the other Fantom drives (I've had a couple from other manufacturers that failed after about 9 months, and then 1.5 years). I was a little surprised about the time required for reformatting from FAT to NTFS, but considering the 1Tb space, I shouldn't have been. Anyway, only had it for a month, but it's quiet & quick, and I'm happy with it!

5 of 5 Great Drive, Great Price Saturday, March 22, 2008
A Customer from Edina, MN
The external enclosure is very small and quite. The aluminum has good heat dissipation from what I can tell. The drive has good speed and is an excellent value. Can't beat the fact that the internal drive is a WD with a 3 year warranty. (well a 5 year warranty seagate could beat that, but i'm not complaining)

5 of 5 Massive storage at a decent price Saturday, March 22, 2008
Jeff from Delaware, OH
Who would think that an external 1TB drive would be cheaper than a bare internal drive, but it is, and this drive works great. It has the Western Digital WD10EACS drive in it (I had to peek), which is from WD's "green" line. The aluminum case does a good job of heat dissipation.

5 of 5 Works just fine Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Jim from Torrance, CA
I've had good luck with Fantom external USB drives in the past and this one is no exception. It performs as expected. The drive does make a little noise but that doesn't bother us, we just tuck it away. Overall, it's a great product. I would give it a higher rating for performance if it had other faster interfaces but those aren't expected for the low cost.
