5 of 5 It works great! Tuesday, June 10, 2008 A Customer from Ohio
I own Seagate pro 500gb, Western Digital 250gb, and Fantom 1tb.
Temperature: (the lower the better) Fantom<Western<Seagate. But not too much different. All of them has pretty much low temperature.
Sound: (the lower the better) Seagate<Fantom<Western. Western has pretty loud sound. I don't know if it is fan or the design. Fantom is kinda loud too, but I like the sound of Fantom.
Performance: (my opinion, the higher the better) Western<Seagate<Fantom. I really don't like it when the hard drive automatically turns off or goes to 'sleep mode.' If don't use the hard drive for a while Western goes to sleep mode. Seagate has a little longer time. Fantom doesn't goes to sleep mode. I love it!
Ease of use: (the higher the better)
Seagate<Western<Fantom. I am not gonna mention about installing it, because if you can't format, or install, that is dumb.
Fantom has the power button, if it is off, it is not gonna work even if it is connected into computer and the power. Western has power button too, but it is one button there is no power off.(You can turn it off, but not power off)
I found that it is very useful. Sometimes I forgot to disconnect my hard drive before I turn my computer off. When the computer tries to turn off, the connected hard drive goes crazy(it turns on and off about twice in 10 sec) With the power off button, you can prevent doing it.
Overall: (the higher the better) Western<Seagate<Fantom.

5 of 5 Great Value Tuesday, June 10, 2008 A Customer from Denver CO
Great value in large hd storage... Performed perfectly out of the box. Runs cool to warm, but not hot (indicating decent performance life). I'm saving up for a second one! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Quality as stated. Wednesday, June 04, 2008 DAve from apex, nc
Good product. Worked right away. It occasionally disappears from my laptop XP, so I have to reboot to find it. hmm. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great price, quiet drive, helpful big storage size Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Robert MacKimmie from San Francisco, Ca
Ten years ago, the word "Terabyte" would be enough to make blue-haired ladies faint if you uttered those words at a Sunday tea party, but here is a compact, quiet, speedy Terabyte (OK, formatting makes it slightly less) drive. I have a 500GB Fantom drive, and while I don't keep either one running the whole time, when I do power them up, they are fast, great transfer speeds, quiet with no fan, and seem to do a great job. I am using these drives with Mac OSX and there was no setup required, just plug in and use. This item had a $20 rebate, so I'm waiting to see. My 500GB drive had two $20 rebates and I only ended up getting one back from them - be sure and stay on top of getting the rebate. I read widely before purchasing any of these drives. Some have mentioned the occasional drive failure, but Western Digital has failures also. The price is right, so just have a couple for proper backup strategery, and don't keep them running all the time - that burns them out just like laptops.
Overall it seems like a decent drive and absolutely the best deal that I have been able to find. I like the speed and the quiet. Was this review helpful?

I'll keep it short and sweet. I've had a 1 Tb Fantom drive for a year and it is fast, reliable and just flat out works. All things being equal you won't go wrong with it. Was this review helpful?
