5 of 5 Solid Reliable Card! Friday, March 28, 2008
A Customer from lincoln, ne

It's an overall good card that has excellent overclocking potential.(overclocked performance is close to the stock 8800 gtx when) It scores really well for large video editing or rendering projects, and slightly lower for extreme gaming. However, there are better valued cards availabe; but was the best deal when i purchased it early on.

5 of 5 Great High End Card Thursday, November 29, 2007
yuppie1550 from Austin, TX
There are other overclocked versions of the 8800 and the GTX and Ultra but the 8800 GTS 640 offers great performance. It's a bit pricey. My recommendation is to go for the new 8800 GT if you can find them. Same bang as the GTS for less buck. Otherwise this card flies.

5 of 5 Best Video Card Available! Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Josh from Pikeville, KY
I bought this video card to upgrade from a 7600GS and the performance increase was amazing. I went from not being able to play FEAR with all the eye-candy to maxing everything out and still have a high framerate. Everything I have thrown at it plays awesome. I am currently playing Team Fortress 2 BETA and it looks beautiful. I can't recommend this card enough. With the price and discounts that buy.com has available, it is a deal that any gamer should not pass up.

5 of 5 nice. very nice. Wednesday, July 11, 2007
A Customer from Chicago
First of all, I'm always wary when ordering computer parts online, even though I do it often. Something always goes wrong, either with the shipping or with the actual product itself. However, exactly 2 days after I ordered this Fedex came to my door. 2 days! And I only got the cheapest delivery possible 5-7 days. After carefully installing the card with high hopes I flipped the switch and right away there was this high pitched wailing noise, like a capacitor about to blow out. I got scared and turned my computer off. I was about to throw a fit when I realized I forgot to plug the 620 mb, 10 inch long, 2 lb graphics processing monster into the power supply. yikes. So now I'm enjoying smooth gameplay on Oblivion and Rainbow Six Vegas with all the video settings turned all the way up and scoring higher than I've ever gotten on 3dmark06 and I haven't even tried overclocking it yet. Great card, great company, great delivery, great buy.

5 of 5 Overclocks Easy Thursday, June 14, 2007
A Customer from La Mirada, California
I got this as high as 650 mhz, but it got too hot with stock cooler. I had to drop it down to 600 mhz and it runs like that 24/7 with just driver level overclocking. Doubling the ram of 320 mhz version came cheap and you are much better off picking this up than 320 gts. On the other hand the GTX and Ultra is priced at a premuim. The 640 GTS hits the sweet spot giving you almost the performance of the GTX but its not so hard on your wallet. I run a 24" inch Benq WS and I play every game at 1920x1200 with up to 4x aa. This card is probably overkill for most games out right now.

4 of 5 Good Product - Lowest Price I've Seen vs. Retail Wednesday, June 13, 2007
A Customer from Minneapolis, MN
I bought this its a great value for its price. FAST!. However, there's one problem with all 8800 cards, Windows XP, and wide screen LCDs that everyone should know about. I had to find this one out for myself: The current NVidia drivers have jacked up widescreen scalling. So your native resolution gets jacked and your desktop looks fraken blurry. You get around this by downloading a utility from NVidia that allows "over scanning." Which fixes the native resolution for your desktop, but screws up all your 3D games in fullscreen mode. So, I went back to my 7950. Hopefully NVidia will fix this problem some time soon...

4 of 5 Good card, but had installation issues Tuesday, June 12, 2007
Phios from San Jose, CA
I've been building computers for about 8 years now, so I do know my way around a case or two.... This card however gave me more troubles then most.
For one, the manual on this card is utterly horrible. It consistently references an AGP card, and doesn't talk at all about the PCI-E special power cable. Not having a PCI-E power cable on my power supply, I wasn't certain on how to use the suppled molex to PCI-E power cable adapter.... Do I plug one molex plug into it? Do I plug two molex plugs into it? Who knew? Not the manual, since all it talked about was the mighty AGP card!

Along with that, this card is MASSIVE.... It sttttreachhhhed all the way to the back of my motherboard, going directly over my northbridge cooler. Now the temps in my case are higher and I'm seriously considering buying a new case just to compensate for the huge video card. Also, due to it's size, it was very tough to actually get it into the case.

Finally, I have a dual monitor setup and after installation I could only get one monitor to turn on. I don't know if this is because of the power issue (explained earlier) or because on initial bootup the card only turns on the one monitor. Either way it was a headache because initially I kept thinking the card wasn't working properly and I pulled it out at least 3 times to reseat it until I figured out the issue.

Now, I'm not saying that this card doesn't rock, because it is much better then the 7800GT that I did have. I wish however that it had the nTune software built into the drivers for overclocking (although there are much better tools out there for this issue). Overall I'd say that if your in the market for an excellent video card that won't break the bank, this is a great buy. Just be ready to deal with the initial installation headaches.... And I'd highly recommend a power supply that has a built in PCI-E power adapter.

5 of 5 Great Wednesday, June 06, 2007
Jack from PA
Pros: It is a great card for a good deal. Cons: Had to upgrade my power supply. Said I only needed a 400watt and had a 500watt but you need at least 30A from the +12v rail.

5 of 5 EVGA 8800 GTS Sunday, June 03, 2007
Laser from Delphos, OH
I replaced my sli setup with this card. I had 2 7900GS cards in sli. I wanted the ability to use sli if I so choose, but also wanted to be able to take advantage of DirectX 10. This card does the trick. It installs easily and so far has been very smooth running, so smooth in fact, I'm not so sure I'll spend the extra money for another sli setup. I am a part time gamer and do photos and video editing with my computer. This card very capable of everything I do and has not had a glitch. I'm happy with it.

5 of 5 Performance Monster Monday, May 21, 2007
Steve from Sacramento, CA
I'm still running Windows XP so I can't speak to the performance with Vista, but I'm currently playing Vanguard and Company of Heroes at 1600 x 1050 with all settings maxed. Installation was a breeze. I Pulled out my 7600 GT and plugged in the 8800 GTS in a matter of minutes. I did have to relocate one hard drive due to the length of the card. I would not have been able to fit the 8800 GTX into my mid tower case. I have heard complaints about fan noise with some 8800 series cards. While the fan is audible if you get close it isn't any louder than my case fan. If you are looking for a "silent PC" I guess that could be a negative factor. I couldn't find an exact answer to whether the 640 mb of memory was worth the price increase over the 320 mb version. Looking at benchmarks there appears to be some benefit with resource intensive games, especially with AA and AF maxed. With the price gap narrowing between the two the 640 seems to be worth it now.

4 of 5 EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB Wednesday, March 14, 2007
A Customer from Spokane, WA
great hardware, but not as stellar if you're running vista, which is why i rated it "4" on overall satisfaction. i didn't care for nvidia's image quality with g70 when compared to ati; ati's x1800/1900 series was far superior, imo. however nvidia finally resolved that as image quality of the 8800GTS is slightly better than my x1950. overclocks like mad (648mhz/2ghz), is quiet, and very fast. no complaints other than there's definitely room for improvement under vista. ordered 2 day freight; buy.com got it here next day.

5 of 5 Cost, cost, cost... Saturday, March 10, 2007
hcren1 from Valdosta, GA
I love everything about this card except the price. The performance is great. It is easy to install and setup. I am running two of these babies in a SLI configuration and they work like a champ. If you have a need for speed, this is the card for you. I'm using Microsoft FSX and it requires a huge amount of resources. Two times more than the minium requirement wont hurt. Happy gaming...
