DJ Skribble's mixing is precise, matching tone as well as bpm, something that adds to the experience of an album like this. For what it is, it's good. ~ Steven McDonald | | Though DJ Skribble gained street credibility early in his career for his prowess as a hip-hop DJ, he quickly left the margins for the much more profitable mainstream, and who's to say him nay? Commercial dance music can certainly use all the classing-up it can get, so ESSENTIAL DANCE stands as a valuable entry point to user-friendly dance mixes for those who might be reticent about such things. As for pop-dance enthusiasts, they'll be overjoyed by the skill Skribble utilizes in putting together his party-oriented mixes. Some of the songs he uses may seem overly familiar (Cher's "Believe," Moby's "Bodyrock"), but Skribble's so adept at transforming everything he touches into a new, eminently danceable form, that it's not really an issue. Underground heads may have little use for ESSENTIAL DANCE, but the dance-hungry masses will return to this album again and again. | Producer: DJ Skribble; Roger Lyons; Lee "Scratch" Perry; Mark Taylor; Michael Moog; Moby; Andre Tanneberger; R. Zenker; Anthony Acid; Richard Patrick; The Berman Brothers; Tim Kellett; William Orbit; Ben Grosse |
