3 of 5 Easy to use but insufficient impact on forms Tuesday, January 30, 2007
    A Customer from Reno, NV

We use this solely to print USPS Express Mail and customs forms, both of which are multi-part. The Epson replaced a Lexmark 2480 Forms Printer, which had trouble loading the awkward USPS forms without jamming. By contrast, the Epson loads the forms easily and we like how it senses the form as you insert it and automatically feeds it to the top. It's also a bit faster than the Lexmark. Unfortunately, the Epson has a low impact, so the last couple of forms are very faint, no matter how we adjust the forms thickness lever or print quality (it's rated for 7 copies and both USPS forms are under that). The Epson manual also recommends that multi-part cut sheet forms be fed from the front, which requires the purchase of an optional tray. We use the included top-feed tray, and it's working okay, but it's annoying that the front-feed tray wasn't included. As a final irritation, the Epson web site doesn't list a front feed tray as an option for the FX-890, and though it appears from examining it that the printer will accommodate a front-feed tray, we have no idea how to get one or if it really exists (the manual doesn't show the complete part number, either!). If it weren't for the low impact and accessory tray problems, we'd give this a 5 rating across the board.

4 of 5 Good Printer. Good perfomance Wednesday, November 08, 2006
    Ken Harrison from OKC, OK
This is a good printer. Very veratile and tough. That said, I was just a little underimpressed with the throughput when I ran a 5000 name mailing lins on one up pinfed labels. My customer has a mailinf machine that uses only one uyp pinfed labels, so this what I had to produce. Everything went great for about 10 minutes and then the printing started to slowdown. After about 10 minutes of this slow printing it would speedup and slow down on a semi regular basis. I suspect that this is buffer problem. I may be related to the software I use, but the software works great on othe machines. Overall a really good piece of equipment.
