This poignant memoir of new widowhood is an elegant pastiche not of grief, but of renewal. Roiphe writes her way into the unknown world of life after love, capturing the infinite number of firsts that lie ahead.

Annotation:
Anne Roiphe avoids self-pity while still presenting a frankly devastating portrait of her loss, loneliness, and uncertain path to normalcy after the death of her husband of 39 years in EPILOGUE: A MEMOIR. Roiphe is finely attuned to the odd rhythms and illogic of grief, and she writes with insight and even humor about both the pain of loneliness and the discomfort of company.

Praise
"The moving, immeasurably sad story of the aftermath of an irreplaceable relationship...[EPILOGUE is a] raw, painful and yet occasionally comic memoir." - Maggie Scarf 08/22/2008

Author Bio
Anne Roiphe
Anne Roiphe writes about themes of family, identity, and relationships. In her famous '70s novel, UP THE SANDBOX, she depicted the fantasies of a Manhattan wife and mother. TORCH SONG told the tale of a failed marriage, and LOVINGKINDNESS is a mother-daughter story. In THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, she chronicles a Jewish family not unlike the one in which she grew up. Her nonfiction is also characterized by certain autobiographical themes: A SEASON FOR HEALING addresses the legacy of the Holocaust, while FRUITFUL draws on decades of feminism and experience. In it, Roiphe describes herself as a '"mother feminist."
