Tyrone Power portrays the determined Duchin, who arrives in Manhattan dreaming only of a "red Stutz bearcat and a bankroll as big as the Ritz." With the first note he plays, Duchin steals the heart of society girl Marjorie Oelrichs (Kim Novak), who taught Duchin that love, not money, brings happiness. But as soon as that happiness is found, a tragedy happens, leaving Duchin alone with a newborn son and no will to live. George Sidney directs this moving story of a man who discovers too late the real wonder of life. An emotionally rare motion picture scored to the unforgettable music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Frederic Chopin and Oscar Hammerstein. "...tearjerker ending and theme song memorable." Editor's Note
This sentimental biography looks at the triumphs and heartbreaks in the life of Eddy Duchin, the pianist/bandleader from the 1930s-40s, who was known as "10 Magic Fingers." Awed by the bright lights of New York City, young Eddy (Tyrone Power) arrives with grand hopes of playing in the orchestra at the Central Park Casino. But the pianist quickly learns the cold, hard reality of the music business. Then he falls in love and marries Marjorie Oelrichs (Kim Novak), but their blissful time together proves to be short-lived, when Marjorie dies giving birth to their son Peter.
