| | | Any fan of Fudge knows that he never does anything halfway. And so it should come as no surprise that when he discovers the value of money, he goes whole hog-making his own "Fudge Bucks," dressing as a miser for Halloween, and thumbing through catalogs to choose his birthday presents years in advance. His older brother, Peter, who's just starting seventh grade, finds it all highly embarrassing, as usual. But things change when the Hatchers meet their long-lost relatives, the Howie Hatchers of Honolulu, Hawaii. With new cousins Flora, Fauna, and four-year-old Farley Drexel (yes, that's right, another Farley Drexel!), the stage is set for a wild and wacky beginning to a new school year. Annotation: Five-year-old Farley Drexel Hatcher, better known as "Fudge," and his older brother, Peter, return for yet another adventure. Here Fudge develops an obsession with money (and what money can buy) that continually embarrasses Peter. To further complicate matters, the boys and their parents are surprised to meet up with some long-lost relatives while vacationing in Washington, D.C.
| PraiseBulletin of the Center for Children's Books "This is a snappy, humorous title that lends itself to being read aloud, and Fudge fans in need of a fix will find that it hits the spot." - Jeannette M. Hulick November 2002 |
| Author Bio| Judy Blume | | Judy Blume is one of the most popular authors of children's books. Her writings have won a large number of awards, many of which were selected and voted on by children. Blume is known for her honest and frank dealings with subjects important to emerging adolescents such as teenage sexuality, including masturbation and menstruation. Her presentation of these topics has also made her one of the most frequently censored authors for young people. In 1981, her desire to give young people the right to information access led to the creation of the Kids Fund, which gives grants to non-profit organizations that serve young people. She was given the Carl Sandburg Freedom to Read Award in 1984 and the American Civil Liberties Union Award in 1986. She also received the 1995 Margaret A. Edwards Award for Outstanding Literature for Young Adults--special mention was made of her book FOREVER. |
