 Editor's Note
When it is discovered that an enormous comet is on a collision course with Earth, a handful of Americans make different preparations for the end of the world. While Leo Biederman (Elijah Wood), the fourteen-year-old amateur astronomer who discovered the comet, deals with the pangs of first love, an ambitious newswoman (Tea Leoni) attempts to reconcile with her estranged parents. Simultaneously, a former astronaut (Robert Duvall) finds himself in the stars once again in an attempt to prevent the catastrophe from occurring. Mimi Leder (THE PEACEMAKER) directs from a script by Bruce Joel Rubin (GHOST) and Michael Tolkin (THE PLAYER).

You find yourself hoping that when Armageddon arrives, somebody as sensible, humane and good-fatherish as Morgan Freeman is in the White House; that the demographically useful teenager who discovers the threatening comet is a smart, plucky puppy like Elijah Wood; that somebody as down-home and dutiful as Robert Duvall is commanding the space mission charged with diverting the asteroid from its deadly path. ...on the whole there are worse people with whom to spend our (presumably final) days. Director Mimi Leder handles the scene of mass panic very well, and the script does not allow the world to escape disaster completely unscathed. That's believable, and so are the nicely understated moments of self-sacrifice that bring the movie to its emotionally redemptive climax. - Richard Schickel Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide 0 of 10 Exciting yarn about attempts to ward off a comet hurtling toward Earth... (Morgan) Freeman is rock-solid as the U.S. President, (Robert) Duvall, a veteran astronaut on a space mission to explode the comet; their authoritative presence adds weight to this saga...

5 of 5 A great emotional travesty. Friday, July 18, 2003 sdent64 from Barnstead, NH
Excellent acting, strong emotional music, and a very impactful story bring this movie to the top of the charts. Computer graphics used for the ending sequence are beautifully rendered. This movie is for anyone who likes an emotional story about love, family and sacrifice. I have seen it a few times and each time I cried during a few scenes (doesn't happen very often). Definitely worth purchasing, or at least a rental. Go James Horner! Was this review helpful?

Mostly everyone I've spoken to that has seen Deep Impact all agree on just how impressive this movie was. Morgan Freeman was terrific and was supported by a great cast of actors and actresses! This movie grabbed an emotional chord with me and those that went to see it in the theatre with me. This movie gets 2 thumbs up!!! Was this review helpful?

I saw Deep Impact three times in the theaters and at least a dozen times on video. This film was so real, so compelling and so emotional than any other movie I've seen. The cast is second to none and plot couldn't have been more convincing. This film was a very intelligent and well written movie. I thought it was clever that there was a governmental coverup pertaining to the comet and Morgan Freeman was absolutely brilliant as our President. But what really blew me away was that the film was directed by a women. Mimi Leder has created a very influencial emotionally charged and outstanding piece of work. Also, this is the highest grossing movie ever directed by a women($140 million domestically and $350 million worldwide-GIRL POWER!!!) Mimi and the people at Dreamworks should be proud of this fine achievement. We need more women in Hollywood like Mimi. Was this review helpful?
