5 of 5 Deffinately under-rated Wednesday, December 08, 1999
metalliplasty from Taylor Springs, IL

My favorite movie of all time. Robin Williams and the rest of the cast is amazing. I love the way the movie was filmed. There is a lot of emotion expressed in the film, and the soundtrack helps you feel that emotion as well.

5 of 5 Can This Movie Be Both Underrated and Overrated? Friday, July 30, 1999
Petronius Arbiter II (Petronius_II from Albuquerque, NM
I think so; viewers seem to love it or hate it. I understand why many wouldn't include it among their favorite films; it's one of mine. Biggest weakness: Williams spent about half his time playing his character, the other half doing a Robin Williams act. Also, the character, like Leonard's, is overemphasized. A lot of people don't understand that Ethan Hawke's character is the real protagonist here, though his importance is somewhat hidden, for good reason. Those who feel the characters are too caricatured probably don't remember the almost overwhelming pressures toward dull conformity that characterized the '50s and early '60s. This movie is about how some people find the courage not to be overwhelmed, and why.
