| | | He was their inspiration. He made their lives extraordinary. Academy Award winner Robin Williams delivers a brilliant performance in one of Hollywood's most compelling and thought-provoking motion pictures. Williams portrays passionate English professor John Keating, who, in an age of crew cuts, sport coats and cheerless conformity, inspires his students to live life to its fullest, exclaiming "Carpe diem, lads! Seize the day. Make your lives extraordinary!" The charismatic teacher's emotionally charged challenge is met by his students with irrepressible enthusiasm--changing their lives forever. Magnificently directed by Peter Weir (The Truman Show) Dead Poets Society earned unparalleled praise among audiences and critics alike. "...solid, smart entertainment." Desson Howe, Washington Post "One of the most magnificient pictures I've seen." Gene Shalit, The Today Show "...well made, extremely well acted." Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 If you only see one Robin Williams non-comedy... Sunday, December 12, 1999 Dominick from Old Bridge, NJ
This is Robin Williams at his best in a serious/semi-serious movie. He does not overwhelm the movie with his presence, as Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard are the main characters. Williams' comedy adds to his character, instead of defining it as is the case in most of his movies. The movie is overall VERY powerful and will have a profound effect on how you look at yourself and your life. Was this review helpful?
