5 of 5 So far, so good! Monday, September 07, 2009 Satisfied customer from Logan, Utah
I am definitely technologically challenged, but I was able to get the software installed and this little gizmo running without too much trouble! It made a great copy of my Hi-8 camcorder tape that I was able to pop into my DVD player and view. It also creates menus for you at intervals that you specify. There is much more that you can do with the studio software that accompanies it, but I haven't attempted that yet. We will see if the device can make it through all of my camcorder and VHS tapes. I am very pleased so far. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Locksup Computer Thursday, March 06, 2008 bdev605 from Dayton, Nevada
The capture part works just fine. However the software they provide with the device (pinnacle Studio 10)is crap. The "making a movie" and burning to a DVD doesn't work. It managed to completely screw up my computer. It managed to delete two of the file associations for my Windows Media Player (.wma, .wmv) so they wouldn't play any audio or video files. AND after I recreated them, and the player worked again, when I tried to play ANY video it would go FULL SCREEN (nothing else showing at all) with no way to stop it except "restart". I tried to find what could have caused this problem all to no avail. I had to completely restore my OS hard drive to clear the problem.
Also the DVD I made wouldn't auto start and went beserk as all the others so I round filed it and have removed the software completly. Good riddance.
I've e-mailed Pinnacle but all I get is "auto-reply" messages with some of their FAQ file that in no way pertain to this problem. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Some Bugs But Not Bad Monday, December 10, 2007 Trish from WA
The Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder isn't a bad deal for the money. There are some issues that need to be worked out though. The software is not very stable. I'm running Windows XP, lots of RAM and hard drive space on my machine. I've had the Pinnacle program totally freeze up on me so bad that I had to physically cut the power to my computer and restart it to close out the program and get the DVD that was being burned out of the DVD burner. The chapter feature doesn't work for me, the program goes into a 'never ending let's start over and over' mode and never closes out the DVD which won't allow it to play. I've had the program freeze just as I push "Record Now." I've had it freeze when I pushed "Stop Recording." So have more blank DVD's than you think you'll need. A trick that seems to have worked for me is to close out the program each and every time I'm done recording one DVD and then go and reopen the program again, I choose my record time just a bit longer than the tape so I'm not recording long after the video is done and I don't choose the chapters feature - I wish that chapters would have worked for me, that would have been a nice addition. The longest record time the Dazzle offers is 133 minutes, DVD's on the slowest speed will record 240 minutes but the Dazzle doesn't offer that setting. All in all, after I figured out where the bugs are occurring for me the Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder seems to be working well enough. I consider it a decent deal and I'd buy it again. 3 of 5 great idea, but buggy Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from los angeles, ca
setup is pretty simple and software pretty self-explanatory. however, when i tried recording, it kept getting stuck about 10 minutes in, and since it prepares (begins writing onto) the DVDR before recording, this renders the DVD useless because now you have to restart the software and you can no longer record onto that DVD. after making a half-dozen coasters, i finally got it to work for a 1-hour recording, but when i played it back, it only had sound on one channel (i.e., it made a mono recording). very frustrating! 5 of 5 Do it before its too late Saturday, March 17, 2007 captjpb from NY
This device was a simple fix for the 60 hours of VHS tapes I had . I was unable to reproduce a few tapes older than 20 years . Simple to install and use , you will need 3 male/male video cables . You probably have them . It asks you to make chapters . I did every 8 minutes . It helps to search the kid videos . At the GOOD resolution tou can put a 120 VHS on a 4.7 DVD. Overall, an excellent investment . Dont wait too long. They play in every DVD player I know of , so far Was this review helpful?
