Andree Farias, Christianity Today "Day By Day is arguably Adams' best album to date, which is a major statement." Gerard Bonner, GOSPELflava.com
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. | | Personnel: Yolanda Adams (vocals); Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary (vocals); Gregory Curtis (various instruments, background vocals); Paul Jackson, Jr. , Philip Hamilton, Todd Parsnow (guitar); Bobby Sparks (keyboards, mini-Moog synthesizer, programming); Barry Eastmond (keyboards, bass guitar, programming); Keith Taylor (bass guitar); Iz, Luis Conte (percussion); Chris Godbey (programming); Gordon Chambers, Keith Allen , Sharon Bryant, Lisa Curtis, Demeka Jackson (background vocals). | | With its heavy R&B leanings, DAY BY DAY is easily one of gospel singer Yolanda Adams's most accessible and energetic records. However, this doesn't mean that her messages of praise get lost in the potent pop-tinged production; in fact, Adams is as passionate as ever about her faith, as revealed on the formidable opening track, "Victory," which immediately shines a spotlight on her powerful vocals. Renowned producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis contribute to a trio of tracks here (most notably the buoyant "Lift Him Up," featuring Donnie McClurkin and Mary Mary), while gospel-crossover icon Kirk Franklin oversees two songs (the smooth jam "Tonight" and the Quiet Storm tune "Show Me"). As always, Adams expertly walks the line between secular and Christian music, ensuring that fans will be entertained and uplifted regardless of religious ties. | Producer: Jimmy Jam; Terry Lewis; Barry Eastman; Barry J. | | Bio | | Yolanda Adams was raised by God-fearing parents in Houston, Texas where she grew up with five younger brothers and sisters. She sang in the church choir and fell into modeling by way of her natural, luminous beauty and tall, slender physique. Yolanda went on to become an elementary school teacher while still touring as the lead singer for the Southeast Inspirational Choir. Her 1999 Elektra album, Mountain High...Valley Low, reached No. 1 on both Gospel and Contemporary Christian charts and has entered the Billboard Top 50 as well, mostly on the strength of her smash "Open My Heart". Along the way, Yolanda won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Gospel Album. Besides the Grammy win, Yolanda's impressive catalogue of honors includes Soul Train's Lady Of Soul; Award for Best Gospel Album, four Stellar Awards for Contemporary Female Vocalist, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Solo Performance, and more. To top it all off she has become the first Gospel artist to reach Number One on the Billboard Monitor Urban Adult Chart. Yolanda Adams holds every element in her song--and in her person--to become a major voice in music. Her voice sets her in a class above every other modern vocalist. Her songs touch on love and faith, and they flirt with R&B and Pop, but she is best-known for her soaring Gospel ballads.
