When ad execs Charlie (Dr. Dolittle's Eddie Murphy) and Phil (TV's "Curb Your Enthusiasm"'s Jeff Garlin) lose their jobs trying to sell a veggie-flavored breakfast cereal, their wives head off to work. But when they realize they can't afford to keep their kids at the fancy Chapman Academy run by the evil Miss Harridan (The Addams Family's Anjelica Huston), Charlie and Phil become the proprietors of Daddy Day Care. Little do these two Mr. Moms realize that they have just begun their own adventures in babysitting! Daddy Day Care's excellent supporting cast includes Steve Zahn (Stuart Little), Regina King (Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde) and Kevin Nealon (Anger Management). "...a guiltless, straightforward comedy bound to make any parent chuckle..." Guylaine Cadorette, Hollywood.Com "The perfect family film." Tony Toscano, Talking Pictures "Your kids will like it, and you will too." Tim Cogshell, Boxoffice Magazine
 Editor's Note
Advertising executive Charlie Hinton (Eddie Murphy) leads an idyllic suburban life with his wife, Kim (Regina King), and adorable 4-year-old son, Ben (Khamani Griffin). But when Charlie and his buddy, Phil (Jeff Garlin) are let go from their jobs and can no longer afford to send their offspring to ritzy Chapman Academy Preschool, they decide to start their own day care center out of Charlie's house. Things get off to a rocky start, but pick up when word gets out about the affordable rates they offer. Their sci-fi geek pal Marvin (Steve Zahn) jumps on board to help entertain the tots. But competitive Chapman headmistress Miss Harridan (Anjelica Huston) and a by-the-books child services inspector (Jonathan Katz) make sure that Charlie and Phil encounter plenty of hurdles. Continuing the family-friendly winning streak that Murphy began with the NUTTY PROFESSOR and DR. DOOLITTLE films, DADDY DAY CARE is yet another light comedy for children and parents alike. Quaintly peppered with potty and breast jokes--but with no offensive language--the film allows Murphy's appealing soft side to show once again, and his interaction with his young costars is never less than winning. A handful of fellow Saturday Night Live alumni show up to help (Kevin Nealon, Laura Kightlinger, Siobhan Fallon), and the always-strong Steve Zahn delivers several of the film's best moments.

| | Professional Reviews | New York Times "...[What is] revelatory about Mr. Murphy is how relaxed he is with children..." 05/09/2003 p.E15Box Office "...Funny....This is cute. Your kids will like it, and you will too..." 07/01/2003 p.47 Total Film "[T]he dots are joined efficiently, the anklebiters likeable and Garlin a natural talent." 01/01/2004 p.118 James Berardinelli's ReelViews 3 of 10 If nothing else, Daddy Day Care proves what a rare find the motion picture Holes is - a family film that's made with every member of the family in mind, not just those still in diapers. This is one of those nearly unwatchable movies that becomes an endurance contest for any thinking adult. The comedy - or what passes for it - consists of lame, predictable jokes that would be rejected by many mediocre sit-coms. (If you chuckle twice, you will have a better time than I did.) The sentimentality, which at times reaches unbearable levels, is saccharine and cloying. - James Berardinelli Chicago Sun-Times 4 of 10 Daddy Day Care is a woeful miscalculation, a film so wrong-headed audiences will be more appalled than amused. It imagines Eddie Murphy and sidekick Jeff Garlin in charge of a day-care center that could only terrify parents in the audience, although it may look like fun for their children. The center's philosophy apparently consists of letting kids do whatever they feel like, while the amateur staff delivers one-liners. - Roger Ebert
