| A Miami native in the true Slip-N-Slide tradition, the bold-and-bad Trina is set to make an impactful label debut with a collection of real life rap reportage as told through what are sure to prove the year's meanest beats. Laying down lyrical vignettes of Southern-styled street life, the young hiphop correspondent moves with rhythmic ease from her title track, "Da Baddest B***h, to the sexcapade-filled dis-record, "B***h I Don't Need U" (featuring a blistering lyrical volley between the femals rap heir apparent and Mr. Trick Daddy himself).
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Personnel includes: Trina, Trick Daddy, The Lost Tribe, Lois Lane, Total, J-Shin, J.A.B.A.N., 24 Karatz, Twista, Cam'ron, Tre. | | Producers include: The Committee, Righteous Funk Boogie, Black Mob Group, Dewayne "Spiderman" Webb, Hugo Boss. | | Rapper Trina hopes to pick up where Lil' Kim, Da Brat, and a host of other potty-mouthed hardcore gals left off, rhyming about sex and her ability to go at it all night and her quest to find a man willing to do the same for her. By the end of her debut album, it all gets a bit monotonous. Only so many sleazy sex rhymes are tolerable before they become weary. Da Baddest Bitch is at its best when Trina steps out of the gutter and cops a Miami bass beat aimed more toward the dancefloor than the bedroom. The title track and "Off Glass," as well as guest performances from Trick Daddy, Twista, and J-Shin, keep the momentum relatively steady. ~ Michael Gallucci | | Rapper Trina hopes to pick up where Lil' Kim, Da Brat, and a host of other potty-mouthed hardcore gals left off, rhyming about sex and her ability to go at it all night and her quest to find a man willing to do the same for her. | | Professional Reviews | | Spin (6/00, pp.149,152) - 7 out of 10 - "...[This] hardass hopeful comes with tight rhymes slung perkily over the poppiest in South Florida deep-bass quakebeats....[She] is here to satisfy our jones to finally get inside the mind of one of those previously pimp-scripted Miami freaks..."Entertainment Weekly (4/14/00, p.75) - "...Boldly positions [Trina] as the new queen of randy hip-hop tales in which sex is a contact sport. Spare Miami-bass beats provide the apt low end for her below-the-belt rhymes..." - Rating: A- Vibe (5/00, p.172) - "...The relentless tales of prowess...are guaranteed to drop your jaw. Over consistently fast-paced beats and with a tough-as-nails attitude, Trina [delivers] sexually explicit tales riddled with braggadocio and vulgarity....so off-color she's amusing..." The Source (4/00, pp.206,212) - 3 mics out of 5 - "...a thugged-out, bassed-up version of the Spice Girls' girl-power concept....powerful, rude and raw. And baby, we like it raw." The Source (4/00, pp.206,212) - 3 mics out of 5 - "...This 'b***h' is raw....a thugged-out, bassed-up version of the Spice Girls' girl-power concept....powerful, rude and raw. And baby, we like it raw." |
