5 of 5 Working without fail for a year and a half... Tuesday, December 28, 2004 Larry Davick from Fremont, California
I just noticed that I bought this wireless router 1.5 years ago and have never had to re-boot or touch the thing since I set it up.
I'd have to give it an A+. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for home use and Wireless access Monday, November 24, 2003 shell from east LA
This is a nice and inexpensive router that will get just about any wireless connection to work. I had this before I switched to my newer 11g DI-624 from D-Link. I have passed this down to my parents and now they are discovering the wonders of wireless. This performed great for me and has been working flawlessly with good range for my parents. I recommend this product to everyone. Was this review helpful?

It drops my ssh connection about every 10 minutes, due to the router's NAT table memory error. I ended up buying a different model from Netgear. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Perfect Internet Sharing Device Thursday, September 25, 2003 Joe from home
You can share your Internet wirelessly, or wired and this router has them both. The price is small the product is a good sturdy size, and the ease of use is great. I like being able to actually not have to call my friend to ask how I open a port throught he firewall, or how to encrypt my wireless network. it is all there in the manual and setup wizard. Plus there is always some online research. :) Overall I'd give this router an A for its ease of use and providing solid wireless connectivity. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great product after 6 months, plenty of security! Wednesday, September 24, 2003 Georgia IT guy who works with lots of Wi-Fi from Atlanta, GA
If using Win XP, setup is simple, but make sure Windows firewall is disabled (don't need it because router has better features). Whatever you do, read the online material about this product thoroughly and even the whole Help menu in the admin browser in order to set the security settings. For instance, disable the Ping from the WAN side, change SSID name to something obscure, and choose NOT to Broadcast the Wi-Fi signal. WEP is optional and not recommended (wait for WPA). I use the MAC Address filter to make sure only my computers can access the wired/wireless network. I've tested these settings with lots of cards and unless you're a hacker, you'll never know my wireless router exists. If you're concerned about hackers (neighbors with knowledge), set WEP to 256-bit encryption, because hackers will have to spend hours to crack it. Signal strength is great and if your security is set right, buy a repeater to seriously enhance the signal. I'm an IT guy, so I check my router's log frequently. Since I setup my security, no more attacks or pings traceable by hackers. This gives you several layers of security (remember Blaster worm). Before you setup the wireless PC/laptop, upgrade to the latest firmware ASAP and enable 4X mode on the router and then on the card. Enjoy! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy, Easier, Easiest Tuesday, September 23, 2003 A Customer from Huntington Beach, CA
This was a very painless install procedure when I got it home. I am glad it came with a manual and quick install thingy. Open the box, scan over the instructions and start at step one. duh. Well needless to say I got this up and running with my Internet connection within about 30 minutes. Note that I've never done this before. Now it's been 2 months and I've learned a lot. I can open ports for the firewall, make it so other computers can't connect unless I allow them first. All of this is useful and it works. I haven't learned the wireless part yet, but my son knows, so he configured that and I am learning from it. Overall a great value for the money. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Options and Good Range Monday, September 15, 2003 David K. from Home
I have a PC in the back room, but this is with my MAC in my bedroom and I can get a good wireless signal through 2 rooms and down a hall to the back room that has the PC in it. The back room PC gets a solid signal with the DWL-122 plugged into it. This router is easy to install, easy to manipulate, and just overall clean and simple to use. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 I'm happy with it Friday, September 12, 2003 Keene from Newport, CA
I got the router and followed the instructions for setup and it worked without a hitch. My only complaint in that area is that the documentation on the WEP encryption and key were not very clear, but I figured it out. I would recommend this product to friends. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Marvelous Value Monday, September 08, 2003 A Customer from Heitiesburg, NJ
For such a little price this router sure packs a punch. There are so many things you can do with this that it's hard to decide what feature to use and which ones are just overkill. I like the look it gives to my desk with all the blinky lights at night and the slick grey and blue in the day. Wireless works great, or so I hear from all the laptop users in my "office", and I hope others find thie as useful as I have. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 WOW this is a great deal. Friday, September 05, 2003 underdog from Lake City, CA
I've had this router for over a year and it has been nothing but good since I've had it. All the firmware Upgrades D-Llink has released have been speed upgrades, or bug fixes. It is very exciting to see something you like get even better for free. Overall this product has handled everything I threw at it. Gaming, File Sharing, VPN, Advanced web browsing, etc. all works fine on thie 614+. Plus the wireless is super fast and has good range. my apartment is blanketed with coverage and the WEP doesn't degrade speed at all. I only wish it was $30-$50 when I bought it, like it is now. 5 of 5 I Very Reasonably Priced Top Seller Thursday, September 04, 2003 63bug from victorville, ca
This router is so inexpensive now. This same router used to be over one-hundred dollars about a year ago. Now you can get it for 1/4th of that after rebate. This is an amazing router for beginners and the advanced users. It does everything you need in a home router for your broadband connection. The security is 256-Bit WEP and MAC filtering so you can sleep at night.
Setup is very easy as well. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Wireless Product for Beginners Thursday, July 10, 2003 Chak from Hillsboro, Oregon
It took me only half and hour to set up DI-614+ to work with cable modem. This is a great product for people who wants to have wireless network working at home. DI-614+ comes with firewall, encryption, and everything you need to have multiple wireless computers connect to it. I have been using this product everyday for the past 8 months. So far, it has been very reliable and I have had no trouble at all. Was this review helpful?

I purchased a D-Link Di614+ router and it will not connect to the Internet, not via the 802.11b wireless not the 802.3 ethernet ports. I have spent months trying to get D-Link to honor its warranty but to no avail. They have gone so far as to demand I fill out their form, reasonable request if they would give me the form. Instead they just keep dragging it on. Every few weeks a new tech with a new complaint number and they want to start all over again. I short I paid for a paper weight and D-Link is not willing to fix that. As for the speed: it communicates at zero bytes per day, not the 11 meg it promises. The value is great as a door stop or paper weight, as a router bad. It easy to use as a door stop, it does that very well in fact. I understand that sometimes it happens that a product does not work out of the box but D-Link has shown no real interest in providing me with a working unit. Was this review helpful?

The 614+ is a great buy. I was able to utilize and have both computers surfing within minutes. All i did was power off my cable modem (ISP RoadRunner). I disconnected my old router and plugged this one in. I turned the power on for my cable modem (wait for all the cycles to occur), then plugged in the 614+, and then my computers. Voila! Instant wireless internet. The speed of my computer through 2 walls is about 5-10% less than what it was connected to the old wired router. The connection reports only a 60-70% connection at this distance, but I am still surfing at blazing speeds. I never opened the CD-Rom that accompanied the 614+, but will probably once I figure how to enable the security measures. I am using this router with a Linksys 54 Draft G wireless notebook card. No problems. My greatest delight though is that this router works with MSN messenger and allows both file transfer and receipt, which my old wired D-Link router did not. I recommend this product highly. And since the limiting factor for speed is primarily in the ISP (about 2Mbps), I don't think most consumers will be able to hit 11Mbps with their cable modem. Hence, I bought this one and not the the draft 54G products. Was this review helpful?

I have 2 computers -- one running XP home and the other ME -- and wanted to set up a simple home network. The setup process took quite a while, mainly due to the fact that the "wizard" used to set up the product is incompatible with Yahoo DSL (you have to set everything up by hand, but the D-Link support site has simple, step-by-step directions). Once I figured out this limitation of the wizard, setup was a snap. I get a strong signal throughout my 1000-square-foot condo, and am quite pleased with the purchase. Was this review helpful?

I've had so many problems with Linksys wireless routers, I expected some of configuration issues. There were none! The router worked from the start! Wireless worked immediately as well, but I took the steps to secure the wireless so I wouldn't be susceptible to people trying to hop on my wireless network. I haven't had any issues and I'm extremely happy with D-Link. I've been recommending D-Link routers to all my friends (I've had too many problems with LinkSys and their technical support is terrible!) Buy D-Link! You won't be disappointed... 5 of 5 Awesome router for home needs Tuesday, March 18, 2003 A Customer from chi
It is a breeze to setup this unit. Worked right out of the box with XP and Verizon DSL. I also bought a d-link USB wireless card which also worked fine with the XP machine.
The signal strength is pretty good. I have about poor-excellent in all parts of my house. Connection is pretty good anywhere inside. I have not try going outside in the lawn. Would check that when the sun starts shining.
Overall, I am a happy camper! Buy without hesitation! Was this review helpful?

Overall, VERY little trouble and a great product. The trouble that one might have is listed below with solutions.
This is hardware independent. You access it via it's known IP number (configurable) so once your computer is connected, bring up your web browser, type in http:192.168.0.1 and you begin the setup program. The DHCP server part (assigning IP numbers automatically) worked effortlessly and hooking up the cable modem to it was very easy also. All my computers quickly were connected and sharing the web connection.
It has 64, 128 and 256 bit encryption (or no encryption).
NOTE ONE: If you are using Windows machines, and want to see shared resources (drives, etc.) be sure you have NetBEUI or NetBIOS as one of your protocols. I had static IP's that I assigned and my Windows resources were fine with that, but when I began using the DHCP server part of this router, my Windows resources had trouble until I added NetBEUI (spelling?).
NOTE TWO: If you want to use encryption (which I recommend) you need to select your own key and type it in at the server AND on any remote wireless machine.
NOTE THREE: If you are using a cable connection with a dynamic IP, you might have to reset the IP number. When you do not have a router, you would use the command line "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" but with the router, you want the ROUTER to do this task. So use the menu as described selection "Status" and find the "DHCP release" button, etc.
NOTE FOUR: If you have trouble connecting to the web, check to see if you have multiple network cards (like my notebook's built in ethernet connection and the new D-link wireless card). You might have the computer trying to connect via the first connection EVEN when you don't have a cable connected. To fix it, use "ipconfig" (in a command or DOS type window) to see the connections, find out the name (or number if Win98) and use "ipconfig /release <nameOrNumber>" to stop the computer from paying attention to the non-used port.
The only wish is that the range were a bit better, but I suppose that's to be expected with almost any device like this. It's adequate, and I will have to mount the unit a bit more central for a more reliable "connection" at opposite ends of the house. But even as is, it works fairly reliably.
The electronic manual is more detailed than the quick start type guide. Use it for details like #3 above.
I have a network printer and it worked well, and seems to have no problem with IP changes. If anyone knows about networked printing (HP4000N with JetDirect) and using BootP (using the DHCP server) please let me know what happens when the IP number changes. Does it use the MAC address so there's no problem? What's the story there?
Overall though, a very good product. I love it. You will not be sorry with this unit. Was this review helpful?

Took 2 minutes to hook up and another 5 to use the install wizard. Very easy to set up. The wizard did everything; cloned the MAC address and all. Wrote this from the couch while watching the news. The only hangup I have is that when I sat down on the couch, I got a brief interruption when the wireless CardBus went lower than the side of my couch. But then, What can you expect, it's wireless. A must have if you want to be connected and spend time with the family. Was this review helpful?

I'm not a technophile (ok, maybe a little) but even I did not have any problems setting this system up with my existing network. (2) wired pcs- 1 win98 & 1 xp, and 1 xp notebook. I replaced my linksys (also,no problems btw) with the new 22mbps router and did the easy config. The pc card worked out of the box in my laptop. Don't forget to unplug the power on the cable modem to reset ip addresses, (I think). That's it. The whole install was 10 minutes. For the first 3 days, I had to power off the cable modem 1x/day but not since then so I'm thinking it had to do with Cox Cable and not the router. My laptop has wireless access EVERYWHERE inside and outside of my house. Love it! Love it! One of my favorite purchases ever. Besides my original Visor, now Prism!
NOTE: I loved the wireless access so much that I got a linksys (rebate deal included FREE pc card) Print Server. Very Cool! Now I can print wirelessly from my laptop without having a networked desktop PC turned on, just the printer. Woohoo! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Easy Setup and Solid Security Tuesday, October 01, 2002 rob from lake forest, ca
I became familiar with the Setup wizard rather quickly and was shortly after browsing hte Internet thanks to the excellent ease of use. I setup my wireless portion of my LAN just as easily with 256-bit WEP enabled, Broadcasting of the SSID turned Off, and MAC filtering. All those settings plus having my DHCP turned off gave me a good feeling of security. I have wireless coverage all over my home and even on my balcony.
I am very pleased with my purchase of this D-Link product. Was this review helpful?

I didn't have a very happy experience with the DI-614+ It seemed like such a good product, very flexible, good specs, easy setup originally... but then the axe fell. I use Verizon DSL and set that up without a problem, but after about an hour, the router dropped my connection to the net and refused to re-establish it. I had to unplug the router and let it sit overnight, while I used my SMC 4 port router instead to surf (no probs in 2 years of service) and then replugged the D-link into the network, this time it connected to the DSL (after re-running the wizard and putting in all the settings that had been erased by it sitting without power for so long) and worked fine from one machine, but refused to even grant an IP address to the other machine (DHCP server not found). I'm sending it back. almost forgot - the signal dropped about 10% for every 10 linear feet away in my apt, admittedly, I had it on the floor, not a high shelf. Was this review helpful?
