The DU-520 is a 5-port Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 PCI adapter that upgrades desktop computers to the new USB standard. This card is designed to work with mice, keyboards, external CD-R/RW's, external hard drives, webcams, and other USB enabled devices. It is 40 times faster than previous USB adapters and 20% faster than Firewire (IEEE-1394). The five USB 2.0 ports can transfer data at 480 Megabits per second, making it ideal for external storage, backup, networking and video devices.

The DU-520 is backward compatible with USB 1.0 and USB 1.1 products. This gives you the ability to connect all of your USB 1.x devices to the DU-520 USB 2.0 adapter and they will work. Each port detects whether the connected device is USB 1.x or USB 2.0 and automatically runs the device at the correct speed.

Plug-and-Play installation makes the DU-520 easy to install. In addition, because the DU-520 is USB-IF certified, the hardware and drivers meet the rigid demands of these standards.

The DU-520 includes drivers for the most popular operating systems, including Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, Me, 98SE, 98 and Macintosh OS X. And with easy to understand installation instructions, you can install and connect your USB devices quickly and easily.

    I found out the hard way, when I opened up my G5 tower and could not install the card, that not all PCI cards are the same. After further investigation, I learned from the Apple support site that my box requires a 3.3V card conforming to the PCI-X 2.1 spec -- from their description, the D-Link card is a 5V card with a different pin arrangement. The picture on the Buy.com website could have given me a clue, had I known the pin configuration I needed before buying -- but I didn't. :( So a word of caution -- double-check your machine's slot and make sure this card is the right pin configuration before you purchase. I was happy about the pricing and capability of the card, right up until I couldn't plug it in... :-o

    Easy to install, if it doesn't work when first installed, try moving it to a different pci slot. Instructions should have given a tip about possible conflict with other devices and to try another slot

    USB 2.0 is very fast. I didn't know that it was this fast. I have a USB 2.0 webcam and it was already pretty responsive, but once I plugged it into this USB 2.0 PCI adapter I got an even faster response time when I am doing video canferencing, or taking pictures. It isn't anything that is imparitive to the correct operation, but it sure does make a difference. But to be honest the real speed difference is when I get to hook up an external hard drive up to my PC and transfer files from one HD to another. The speeds are WAAAAAAAAAY faster with USB 2.0 and this PCI adapter is easy to install and works great for just these things.
