| | | Enhance your Skype Internet Telephone Service with the DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter. The Skype certified DPH-50U allows you to use your existing corded or cordless telephone to take advantage of Skypes low cost calling features. Utilizing your existing telephone enables you to use your telephones built-in features such as speed dial, redial, mute and caller ID. Using a cordless phone even unties you from your computer while making Skype calls. Best of all, there is no additional equipment to buy to start using the DPH-50U.
The DPH-50U allows you to accept both regular telephone and Skype calls from the same phone giving you added flexibility. When you are talking to someone on your regular telephone line and receive an incoming Skype call, you can easily switch lines to take the Skype call or vice versa, just like a regular call-waiting feature. You can also do a conference call between regular telephone and Skype lines. For added convenience, the DPH-50U includes helpful LEDs to indicate whether you are receiving a regular telephone or Skype call.
The DPH-50U can be configured to forward incoming Skype calls to another destination such as your cell phone so that you never miss a call while you are away. The DPH-50U also includes a toll bypass feature that is ideal for the following two scenarios:
The first scenario is when you are in the same geographical area as the DPH-50U and want to make an international call. You can call from your cell phone to the computer that the DPH-50U is connected to and make a low cost SkypeOut3 international call.
The other scenario is when you are traveling abroad and want to call someone who lives in your home area. You would simply make a Skype-to-Skype call to the computer where the DPH-50U is connected to and use your regular telephone line to make a local call.

5 of 5 Works like a charm Sunday, July 13, 2008 Neal from Cincinnati, OH
Installed the driver from the cd, downloaded the updated driver from the dlink web site (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=466), and installed it. And it took a computer reboot to make it work properly. Have been getting calls from the internet for several days now with no problem.
The main challenge to configuring this product is setting up the phone line/computer/main telephone so that the main telephone is in a convenient place.
One suggested enhancement that would make this product even better would to allow the skype caller to choose what to do...i.e. press 1 to leave a message on the answering machine, 2 to call the preprogrammed number. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great and inexpensive Wednesday, July 09, 2008 A Customer from Gaithersburg, MD
After downloaded the latest driver from Dlink, it works well. Haven't really use it for a long duration but so far so good. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Almost Works Monday, June 02, 2008 A Customer from Rochester, NY
This is not ready for prime time. Yes, it will work but you may need to reset the device or software between each call to keep it working. Otherwise, you may need to deal with Skype issues. It is just not reliable enough for everyday use. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Works most of the time Thursday, May 22, 2008 George from Dunlap, IL
The unit works pretty well with Skype. It doesn't always resume from suspend consistently, but 90% of the time, it does.
Don't count on getting your rebate. It's been 4 months so far and it's still in step 2 of 4. Was this review helpful?

Setup took only a few minutes and every thing worked nicely. The only issue I experienced a couple of times was calls getting dropped after about 5 minutes. It would have been nice if it offered more configuration options to simplify the dialing process, but overall this is a very good product. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Had problems Tuesday, March 25, 2008 A Customer from Milton, Fl
Connected unit to USB port and could faintly hear Skype test call, but it would not pass the record test. After calling Dlink for support 6 or 7 times(they were very nice,)downloading updated software and trying unit on another computer that worked fine, I happen to switch to the USB port on the back of my Dell Inspiron 2650 instead of the port expansion slot and then the unit finally started operating correctly. It seemed that there was insufficient power at the expansion port for the unit to operate. Was this review helpful?

IMPORTANT!!!!
Visit D-link's website to get the latest drivers!!!
This will ensure a smooth installation and less problems down the road. Read the instructions set up was 1-2-3 easy.
I've heard of skype for awhile and wanted to find out what the hype was all about, make calls for free? Computer to Computer
Headset and mic is a turnoff, I wanted to use my existing cordless phone and this did the trick.
I have a skype phone number and can receive and make unlimited calls, caller id, call waiting, conference, for about 60.00 a year not bad at all. I loved it so much i gave up my cell which is 50.00 a month, and gave up my bundle cable phone with time warner.
Voice quality was smooth, keep in mind i live in Albany where speed test show 10Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload, and time warner has confirmed , yep its fast in my neck of the woods, im considering FIOS from verizon but afraid of their commitments, sorry to get off topic.
I also have a broadband booster, HBB1 form Hawking, which is a qos packett router , it identifies voip and , gaming packets so i dont drop calls or lag online , while my phone is on. this means i can bit-torrent, make calls and play halo3 all at once.
The only downside, isn't associated with the product is when you are assigned a skype phone number (which you pay for yearly) , when you make calls you are identified as unknown or 0123456789, which can scare some folks who screen calls.
I call friends and family and the are used to the weird id and usually know its me on the other end.
Get this if you have a cordless phone already, and a STEADY INTERNET connection and SPEED. No hardware can resolve poor voice quality ,dropped calls if your upload speed is weak like 256kbps or lower... Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 doesnt work Tuesday, March 11, 2008 A Customer from Reston,va
it does not work properly when connected to the house phone lines.
I used to have vonage connected directly into the houses phone wiring. it worked fine. but this adapter frequently bugs out with a message saying "power spike on usb port" and the entire call sounds like a device shorting out and it wont disconnect until it is removed from the usb port.
I have not contacted tech support so this may be a bad unit or i may be using it incorrectly. Was this review helpful?

I was able to hook this up without any trouble and was impressed to see my regular phone coming thru Skype. I did find that it will drop the call sometimes after 20 minutues sometimes after 2. I would guess it drops at least 20% of the calls. D-Link needs to develop a fix for this. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Does not work with Vista Tuesday, February 05, 2008 A Customer from Mechanicsburg, PA
I even downloaded the latest Vista driver from DLink website, but this device just will not work with Vista. The driver installed so stubborn like a virus. I had tough time cleaning it up. I finally returned it. The Actiontec device is way better than this one. Was this review helpful?

I've been using it for 6 months now and no problems so far. Call quality has been great - no dropped calls or echoes. Still waiting for my rebate though - Buy.com - are you listening. Was this review helpful?
4 of 4 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Vista compatibility issues and rebate troubles Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Ken from McDonough, Georgia
It could not be installed on a Vista machine. I did find a Vista driver later and got it working. It sometimes fails to launch along with Skype. Sometimes Skype does not reset the sound to the D-link. Sometimes the D-link reverts to a non-Skype device on boot. To sum it up it is flaky with Vista. I have a Kinimax version of a similar device with the same chipset. In fact the D-link software works with the Kinimax unit. The Kinimax is attached to an XP machine and is a little less flaky, which might lead me to believe that the Vista drivers for the Dlink need some work (and of course so does Vista).
We just got a card from Dlink yesterday telling me they they need the original UPC. Of course we sent that along with the rebate request. So, I suppose I will never see that rebate check making this a poor value.
So, you have 2 reasons to avoid this product. Was this review helpful?
3 of 3 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Mostly good, some quirks Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Michele from Rochester, NY
This device does what it says - insert it in your phone line and you can either make ordinary landline calls or hit ** and make Skype calls, all using the existing phones in your house. On sale, it's a good value. I've found it to be very reliable - no problems.
The quirk is that when you use your phone to dial a Skype number, the D-Link produces three loud reorder tones (the ascending beep beep beep you hear when you've dialed an invlaid number) but then connects you anyway. And of course, D-Link technical support is worse than non-existant. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to use. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from 98003
