5 of 5Round "Thingie" works GREAT Sunday, March 25, 2007 SC from Oak Harbor, WA
Moved into a new 2-floor house; wireless "G" router upstairs. My laptops were having connectivity issues due to poor signal quality - especially using those USB 2.0 "stick-type" adapters that look like a thumb drive. I used bigger/badder antennas on the router (supposedly +7dB) without much improvement. Got tired of wife complaining about her connection dropping, so in frustration I ran out to the local big-box to get a better "G" wireless adapter. Was not looking for "Pre-N" stuff but this was the ONLY thing left on the shelf except for those USB stick-types. I was very skeptical because it looked gimmicky - sorta like a hucky puck - and no visible antennae. I assumed all the "Pre-N" hardware had dozens of antennas sticking out - like flying battelships in those Japanese animes... But I was yet desperate. Took it home and plugged it in and - BAM! - I was picking up signals from the neighborhood I had never seen before, even on my desktops. The DWA-142 has been running without a single flaw for about 30 days. Nice management interface, too, and comes with Network Magic (if you need help). What can I say? It works fantastic (with a SMC "G" router) and features a very elegant, easy to hide, low profile appearance. Even without using the "Pre-N" modality I am pleased with its performance. Less time troubleshooting connections. Wife happy = me happy.
