4 of 5 Works great (eventually). Sunday, February 22, 2009 A Customer from Mishawaka, IN
We now use the DSM-510 to stream HD shows recorded using
Microsoft's Media Center and an OTA HD tuner in our office computer to our bedroom tv. The picture and sound quality is excellent. At first, we had a problem with it locking up, but this was most likely due to overheating of the device. I bought a $7 small fan and put it next to the device when in use. No problems since. The fast forward is not the smoothest and you need to reset the output to HDMI every time you restart the system but for the price it works very well. Since we have a wired connection, next to the TV, we use it rather than wireless.

5 of 5 Definitely the right network media player for me Thursday, August 16, 2007 EquallyWrong from Indianapolis, IN
I purchased it to replay Nero Digital .mp4 media files from my pc to the device. It did that and even more that I didn't expect it to do. I found out by accident that a Viiv enabled pc is definitely something you want in a media server. Wired or wireless, I have not experience any network issues that would interrupt playback (not saying it couldn't happen to you, its just I have experience any problems). I not technical about the Viiv setup, but the requirements are a pc with viiv, a viiv enabled router, and viiv network player like the DSM-510. Also, it streamed Media Center PC TV recording also. Absolutely awesome network player this thing is. Buy.com is selling it today in the one hundred dollar range. Extremely excellent buy. Everyone else is charge two hundred dollars. 4 of 5 Great device!!! Love it! Tuesday, June 26, 2007 Techiman from Shrewsbury, MA
I just purchased DSM-510 and set it up with my home network and my plasma tv. It works great! But, there are couple of things that you need to know before you by it. First, installation manual or quick install guide are not telling you that if you do not have an Intel ViiV based PC, you can not install Media Server software, but instead, you can use Windows Media Player 11 to setup your DSM-510 as shared media. I found this information FAQ section on support.dlink.com. Second, a lot of my AVI files I had with different encodings were not supported. So I had to use different software to recode all my AVI files. But beside this, it works great and I love to have all my movies and photos stored on my PC to be availabe on TV without connecting any cables. I am thinking to by another one for my second room.
